I've often spent soul searching time on stand while in the quiet deer woods, in the boat or blind waiting for ducks or geese to appear, or setting quietly alone, between fish on a slow day ice fishing in the shanty. Pondering just what the true human nature and drives were that made me/us sacrifice the money along with so many other personal relationships and other things to do what often ended (to others) in perceived wasted time and failure. And like most, it took me a while to recognize and appreciate that it was as much about the doing of it, the emotional rewards and the soulful satisfactions, over the successful, competitive bragging rights that I once imagined and craved. Few other sports ease the burdens of life and satisfy the soul as much, even in those perceived failures. Hunting and Fishing enthusiasts are indeed a band of brothers and breed onto themselves.
