After a total of 902 sturgeon speared last year in a total of 10 days, who would have thought that this year would have been as godd as it was. The numbers came in a short while ago....The Department of Natural Resources said the catch Saturday of 1,303 sturgeon included 231 juvenile females, 509 adult females and 563 males. That is amazing. The biggest fish taken since ever in 1953, (180 lbs) was also surpassed with a fish weighing 188 lbs today. The fish measured 79.5 inches...WOW!
Good Luck tomorrow and congrats to everyone today!

Wish you could have got a shot of the lucky spearer holding his prize while you took the picture!

Thanx for the eye candy!

Wow, what a huge fish! Congrats to the spearer. How old is a fish that size? Hundred years old?

Unreal how many sturgeon they got in one day! It seems like there are more taken every year. Can this fishery sustain these amounts year after year? Do you see a return to limited tags issued? I remeber when they used to get a hundred or so a year for a season. Not tring to start something, just interested. I haven't gone to spear, just went along to observe a couple times. Was interesting to watch through that hole, and see all sorts of fish swin through.
