The Spring Valley Illinois River MWC kickied off this morning under mostly sunny skies and cold temps in the 30's. Highs today are expected to nearly reach 50 degrees, with moderate NW winds.

The bite has been reportedly tough, but the river is reported to be stabilizing and the bite is expected to improve some over the next couple days.

OutdoorsFIRST's Keith Worrall will begin WalleyeFIRST's reporting from the weigh in today at the Spring Valley Boat club. The weigh in begins at 4 PM.

The bite was tough with lots of 1 fish bags coming in and quite a few zeros. Word is the river is muddied up pretty bad but a few teams still managed a good bag for day 1.Thirty seven teams brought in fish today. Everyone still has a chance at the money on day two.

Steve Vandemark and Jerry Fox Jr are in the lead with a 5 fish limit that weighed in at 14.2 lbs. Joe Perez and Troy Tregoning are in second place with 13.1 pounds and Glen Daugherity and Kathleen Hohn are in third place with 12.1 pounds.
