Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | With the rivers froze over,am I the only one sitting in front of a computer thinking of anchoring in front of a wingdam, 80 deg`s, ice cold ice tea, talking fishing with friends, cell phone gets no signal, watching eagles sitting in the trees, slamming into a big fish.Life is good on those days. Well back to reality. Its 6 deg`s in Chicago and I got to go work in the snow. John Mannerino

AW Come On! If you fished the same thing every day you would get bored and not appreciate those days on the water!

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | Man you got that right partner. Take a look in a river fishermans boat after a tourney. I looks like a toronado hit it. It looks like winter is here to stay for a while. I`m in the middle of a crankbait count and there hanging all over the basement. If anybody was to break into my house they will never get out alive.HEHEHE John Mannerino

Member Posts: 526 Location: blue mounds, wisc | you got a point there also rick my friend. i also like to fish other waters.i like the challange of getting a map and studying it and going out and find walleye.it is a very rewarding feeling catching your first walleye on a new body of water. then when that second one is caught i get this funny feeling in my stomach that feels awsome. i cannot wait for this winter to get over and the tourny season to get rolling. march cannot come soon enough. then its a event about every third week for me until sept.

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | I always have mixed feelings about that Ol' Mississippi. I've done well one time and pretty bad the next. Rivers were never my strong suit but I think I'm getting better. Sitting in front of a wing dam on an 80 degree day sure sounds mighty good right now. I think it's -12 as I type this!! Sorry you had to go out in that crap John. I had the pleasure of driving a truck down 294 Mon. morning on my way to Indy and then back up to South Bend. Sounds like we both had a long day.

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | Yea I dont think I could take too much more of this. Every winter ,it gets a little harder to take. Been working outside for 25 years, that office job is looking good about now.-10deg- WC -35. This sucks.

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | If you find a decent office job see if they have 2 available. This morning I have to help put bridges on 'Bago and plow roads. Tomorrow it'll be the tree line. I like doing it but it could be a little warmer. Oh well...I'll just keep thinking of wing dams and 80 degrees.

Member Posts: 526 Location: blue mounds, wisc | i was thinking about the wingys. some of my very first days spent fishing with this old river rat on the mississippi 25 years ago.he showed me exactly where to fish a wing dam,and the reasons why the fish were there.i forgot some of the things he told me until i put myself back in his 14 foot flat bottom.in my thoughts.i guess that i developed my own style and forgot the simple basic presentation.i cannot wait to get back out on the mighty miss and get back to the basics.that is something i try to tell myself alot "keep it simple" im gonna turn off my electronics more and get back to the old ways i was taught by god rest his soul PETE KRESS of potosi, wisc

Member Posts: 1188 Location: Chicago IL. | I hear ya partner. All to often we look for active fish and forget about the basics of fishing slow and digging out those pigs waiting for something to stop in his face. Fish dont get big on the river being stupid. John

Member Posts: 145 | I'm dreaming about it too....then suddenly it turns into a nightmare when the lock opens up and an armada of cabin cruisers come joy riding by ruining the whole dream. Then I lift the anchor and head to the sloughs and I'm happy again.....then suddenly the unmistakeable noise of jet skiers running through the sloughs like a slalom course shocks me back into reality. I wish October and November were half of the calender. Nobody on the river but sportsmen and fat fish. Beaver
