Location: HILBERT | I bought some hooks to tie up spinners. When I opened the box of hooks I found them to be of the bait holder type. Is it a bad idea to use the bait holder hook for spinners? THANKS DAVE |

Location: NE/IL | I'd think that the bait holder style hook, if it's the one with the barbs along the shank would be tough to tie spinners with. As you snelled the baitholder hook I'd think the line would bind and not snug up. I'd also suspect that the barbs might fray the line if you were able to get the wraps of the snell over them? Just my thoughts. I've always used octopus style hooks or trebles or a combination of both depending on where I'm fishing.
Just my $.02

Location: Niagara Falls New York | I agree with eyeman 100% on the bait hooks. We use mustad 1/0 octopus hooks and they work great. If you have enough smooth shank you might be able to get them tied.

| Yeah, would stick to octopus style hooks. Last year my tournament partner and I sat tying rigs up one night before a small tournament. We ran out of these octopus hooks so we tied a few with bait hooks.
Well, some of you may already have guessed what I am going to type next; Pete put one of these rigs on his line, and 2 fish bit hanging on long enough to know they were heavies. But both were self-released.
NEVER AGAIN!
