Went out this morning. Launched at mouth with no probs. Headed up river in hopes of getting to the dam. Not much ice untill the bridge before the 172. Then had to break through past the warm water discharge, it was all soft ice so no big deal. Then open untill launch @fox point, then had to break some more, thats when I seen these guys ice fishing 20 yds. from the edge of the ice. They packed up quick when they seen us coming. There already was one boat up to the dam when we got there. Ice in front of voyager out 100 yds and very honeycombed and soft. 91 eyes btw. 3 of us all 16-24" jigging. Then about 1-2 o clock guys came out and ice fished about 20-30 from the edge of the ice, then a few more showed up. About ten boats out today. I have pics of these guys ice fishing while we were in the boat. They are very insane for being out there. I'll post the pics when I get the film developed.

It always amazes me that folks will put their hide at risk walking out on bad ice. The pictures should be interesting!

Went to Appleton yesterday, and saw a tight group of shacks and anglers on the south side of the 41 bridge over Butte des Mortes. There was water opening in the channel. Never fished there, and don't know how deep it is, but I figure they were right on the break line, getting gills. Nobody was out alone, any farther than the line!

The ice-anglers have been stacked up just southwest of the 41 bridge for days. Something must be biting to keep bringin' back. It looks like a long walk to that spot.

The Fox River in Oshkosh is almost completely open today - still scattered ice patches along shore.

What you guys are talking about is Skipper buds.
Always a hot spot, but almost private, no leagel access anymore, no parking, got to have contacts or walk a long ways.
Gills, crappies, and perch are whats on tap there.

2 Boats at the dam this morn. Have to put in below. The DQ ramp is shut, although they are "pushing" small boats out over the ice there.
Good Luck

Good pictures. Those guys on the ice were nuts! How much ice were they walking on?

The two guys on the far right had a power auger and it did not take long for them to get through. We were think about 6 inches, but like I was saying the ice was VERY soft. When we were fishing at the edge of the ice I put my foot out and hardly put weight on the ice and a good size chunck broke off.
