I know this is a walleye website, adn we do talk from time to time about perch and white bass, but I was wondering if anyone ever gets into the good crappie or bluegill fishing we have out there?

A couple of years ago, I caught some of the biggest bluegills of my life on Winnebago. I was fishing some shallow weeds on the west side and ran into a school of prespawn bull bluegills. I caught two on a 1/16 oz jig w/leech that were both well over a pound.

I've also seen some huge crappies out there, especialy in Asylum Bay. Anyone ever hook up with some of these big panfish?

Jerry I've caught some nice crappies behind Garlic Is.in the over hanging and submerged trees.Nice slabs too.Not alot of fish but nice ones though.I would imagine any shoreline with some branches hangin in the water would hold some fish too.I'll have to try the docks at the asylum they should be there too. This is a very short period of time when they are in these areas though.

I have never hit the bluegills but I have hit the big crappies over here on the east side. The type of spring we get seems to dictate when they will bite.

There are indeed some sweet gills and slab crappies to be caught on the Bago..some of the back bays on late ice can sure produce. I hope to do some this up coming week. Crappies are being caught at the Carp Ponds right now. Nice gills show up every once in a while too. Along with perch and whitebass! To dang many places to fish and not enough time and $$$ to fish em all!! Good Luck guys..Packrat

2 years ago was jigging and bobbering a favorite rock pile on the east side. Caught 7-8 very nice gills, maybe nine inchers. Along with these had a half/dozen jumbo perch, a crappie, couple of white bass, caught and released numerous smallies, and finished the livewell off with a limit of eater walleyes!

All this anchored on the same small spot!
