Member Posts: 105 | I was at the weigh in Wed. and Thurs. truly an amazing event. Lots of big weights from upper lakes but some good ones from Winnebago and the river. Had the oppertunity to pre- fish with some guys from out of state.I can't say enough good things about the people I met. I hope they come back next year!!

Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | I agree, Kitch, it was a great site and a first class event all the way. I only wish I could have finished a little higher than I did. I drew to great guys as partners, and I thought I had a solid on the water program going. Unfortunately, the fish didn't cooperate. The guys that were in first, fourth and fifth fished next to me most of the morning. It's all about getting bit. I was pumping Zip lures at the mouth of the river. My partner and I had 6 fish on throughout the morning and never got one in the boat. So, we left and went to the cane beds in Poygan. Put one 18" fish in the livewell right away, and never had another hit the rest of the day. On day two, we started in the cane. we had fish going right away, but we had decided that since we both needed around 20 lbs. to qualify, we would need decent sized fish. We kept another 18" fish and threw small ones back. Ended up with just one fish at weigh-in. I tried to fish the good spots in the mud on winnebago, along the reef edges, and on top of reefs in practice and on day 2. But, I never caught a fish. I can tell you there's a ton of fish just off Garlic Island reefs and off Steven's Reef. I think (hope) it's just a matter of warmer water temp. before these fish start to go.

Member Posts: 105 | I pre- fished winnebago with a pro from Minnesota, he wanted nothing to do with upper lakes so we looked for some decent fish on the big lake, it took 6 hours but we found some good fish not huge but contenders, he tried some shorelines on day one and only managed 1 3.5 on day one. Day 2 we talked and he said he was going to live or die on our mud spot.15.6 pound on day 2 and 35th place overall I was as pumped as he was!! the bad part is he dropped a 4lb. plus off on day 2 that cost him a 3rd day of fishing. The fish are out there but you have to work hard to get them to go. Kitch

New User Posts: 2 | I don't know if this matters to anybody but in the state of wisconsin the law is five walleyes daily bag limit so why on day three did a pro fisherman say that he netted all the fish that they brought in which was six fish. Which means to me that his co-angler caught six fish and kept them which is one over the daily bag limit in the state of wisconsin, which is a violation just rules that every other fisherman in the state have to abide by![:)]
