The only part I found(so far in my quick scan) that i don't totally care for is this one: The bill provides that DNR may not
allow a fishing tournament participant to engage in an activity if it would not allow
an angler who is not a tournament participant to engage in that activity.
My reasoning is why should a Tourney guy be allowed to keep 5 fish in the livewell(for instance) and me fishing the same lake the same day but not in the Tourny only be allowed(let's say the limit is 2 fish per day on this imaginary lake) 2 fish. Otherwise I like the idea of the dnr being in charge of regulating tourney's.

It is probably a good thing that tourneys will be regulated in order to protect your great natural resouces, but I don't care to read in that statute the preferential treatment the Bass promoters are getting so they can hold 4 culling tournaments. They even went so far as to say that of the 4 culling permits for Bass tournaments, 3 will be for largemouth only, and 1 permit will be allowed for both large and smallmouth together.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen if someone else besides the FLW, or BASS were to apply for one of those permits first! Imagine the stink if Mr. John Q. Public were to be standing at the door of the DNR office when it opens the first day that permit applications could be filed, with all his papers in order, and asked for one of those 4 permits! I'd hope he would have his lawyer with him when he does it, because you know darn well, those are not "PUBLIC PERMITS", those are owned by some tournament promoter, and he's paid off quite a few people in order to get them!

JLDII, Your point gets right to the entire argument on this bill. The fact that the FLW and B.A.S.S lobied to "get their way" is, too say the least, QUITE DISTURBING. The DNR had NO say in this matter at all. They were adamently against preferential treatment but at the final hour the politicians added the amendment to allow their culling and no further input was allowed by the DNR. I would hope some group or organization would bring their attorney and file a suit against this First ever law regarding special circumstances for special regulation regarding our resource. Although The bill is a fine one without the B.A.S.S issues!
I have spent the better part of 2 years on this issue and needless to say Big Business won out in the end!
Good Luck

Maybe it is time for the first "Outdoormedia Bass Tournament"!! I'd be willing to send Steve to the state capital to lobby for our right to have this tourney. Heck, I might even buy a Wisconsin license and fish it too!

What is going to happen if these few Bass Tourneys don't pull the media numbers the promoters need in order to sell this tournament in the future? Will the state still allow these designated culling tournaments, or will they make up some excuse and return to what has always been and ignore their mistake, in regards to culling that is.

What ever happened to the ...."we the people, for the people, buy the people" idea anyway?

I know I am an outsider to the great state of Wisconsin, but I am affraid that the good people of that state are starting to be taken in the same way the politicians have been screwing the people of Minnesota for some time now. STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU THE CITIZENRY WANT!!!
