Member Posts: 157 Location: YouTube.com/LyubakaVideo Instagram @LyubakaVideo | After a pleasurable, but far from being described as “productive” meeting with my mortgage broker at the bank, I felt like kicking the edge off where it is done best – along the cool and welcoming waters of the Wisconsin. I did toss an extra minnow bucket in the car, but never bothered to stop at a baitshop – was too eager to become in one with my fishing habit, and mind you that is an addiction I need no cure for! Time was there not to be spent shooting the breeze about where and how it is done, but being out there and finding out for yourself. The scene from the hill was impressive and quite hope-inspiring, stalking me with that same adrenaline rush we are all familiar with – the one that pours down your spine, sending chills to each neural ending with the morning and slowly sets through the soles of your boots in the muddy dirt of your favourite place to be when you realise that everything is just right, every factor is fingering you from the crowd and the thrill is their to be grasped and beheld… Well, it was no morning and there was no mud down in my feet, but the clean and clear sand – calmly foaming with the wild river waters seeking serenity from the rush and sudden release of all gates of the power-spill. I set my tackle aside and took the moment to breathe and get soaked in the reality of what is away from ordinary dullness. Across from me anglers were wading and getting greater thrills avoiding a fellow’s couple of 100lb German Shepherd “pooches”, who – in turn – were amused by the prolific fun oftrying to munch on whatever the fishermen were to beach – be it a short Walleye they intended to release or a sturdy Whitie, they had some other plans for – including some ice, some grease and SOME beer ?… The waters were thick and heavy, my eddy was oiled by a lead-smooth reverse water column, that was cut through sporadically by a stranded bunch of minnow followed by an energetic splash and the intruder in their hectic stroll alongside the beach. The surface-breakers I clearly knew were White Bass – so let the games begin! A long and everstopping experiment started for me! I was changing lures and presentations every other minute, all three poles I used were rigged for a completely different way of fishing from bobber-jigging through bottom-bouncing to tiny in-line spinners, that I know would have been ways more productive added a little sunshine… All the bottom was producing were snags – of the great kind that leaves behind a macrame of line to get a bunch of greedy tentacles floating around and lurking greedily for your next cast… Reverse current was stronger than my liking and I did not want to switch to heavier jigs so I desided to keep my bait in the current pockets with a bobber. Well Walleyes were suspended, I guess the overcast skies and the rain-any-moment-now barometer were bringing them 2ft under the surface, that and the numerous river shiners I count as factors enough to drive them off the bottom. All I did was keep switching – only colors at first but then the lures as well, and then start a thoroughly different approach. The smallest spinners got me bites. Still, fish weren’t particular in their liking because after the second White Bass I landed on a spinner it was only tiny plastics to produce and I had to cast all the way to the current break and try to keep my presentation within feet and recast. Almost every other lure I presented was bit off by the snags ? LOL. My lady called me and I made only another 50 one-last-casts to pack and go – did not want any aggrevation at home. Having broken all the “rules” – no ice, filleted the meat all the way (without any gourmet pickiness whether I leave the red meat on the skin or for me ;)), no milk soaking overnight… I decided to try and surprise everyone – including myself – with a iprov recipe for fresh fish… Sliced thin 6 brined pickles. Chopped ¼ head of garlic. Put alluminum foil in the oven-pan spread ½ stick of butter and garlic on the bottom. Arranged all the seasoned fish-meat and sprinkled the remaining garlic atop. Covered the fish with pickle slices and poured some of the brine in the corners. Peppered the surface – spqueezed some lemon juice between the fillets and threw in some bananna peppers. Covered the whole deal with foil and tossed in the oven – first 10mins BAKE – then remove the foil and BROIL untill you like the colour… Did Sylvia love me after that!? I will just say that our guests actually licked their fingers! Just make sure you have some bakery real white bread to dip in the sauce! And I forgot fresh parsley chopped you can add it now after all ;)… Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||
