I just bought a new mercury 9.9 bigfoot with the mercury power trim.I was wondering what kind of strap you use on them when running in ruff water.I see panther makes a strap for their power trim that you leave on the motor all the time. Not shure if it will fit on the mercury trim?I do not want to have to strap it every time.Would like one that stay on when you lift it and lower because my trim is up by my steering wheel.Need help! thanks ![]()

I did this a couple of boats ago until the coupler broke in rough seas ![]() 2. Last year I disconnected my tie bar and just used a bungee cord attached from eye of boat to moror and back agaian. I was in some very rough conditions and the motoe never moved. 3. You can pruchase the strap from panther but IMHO they are way too much money. I found the same materials at an army nave store and made my own complete with plastic buckle for only a couple of bucks. 4. My friendly mech at the marina where I'm sponsored has a good idea that I may try. He suggests that you attach a knob like the one on your motors (that holds the rod) to the side of your boat. When you're done fishing you disconnect the rod from main motor and then attach that end to knob on your boat to keep kicker from moving. Sounds like a winner of an idea to me.

One time the whole panter lift broke in half. The strap saved the kicker motor from the depths. The rod is stressed at the bends and stresses more each time it flexes. It is great as extra insurance though. But useing it this way has cut down its over all serivce life span. They always break in the bends. Also I have a problem with getting the net caught on the knob..........

Member Posts: 3899 | I know one fella that has installed a RAM mount to hold his kicker in postion while underway. He has a Panther lift, and the strap. Still added the RAM for peace of mind. I'll try to get a pic of it this weekend. Edited by Shep 5/25/2004 8:23 AM

Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | I have the Panther strap, and it is ajustable, and will work fine with the Merc lift also. Another easy trick is to mount another ball on the splash well to connect the steering arm to,after trimming up the kicker.
