I just noticed that David Storm the owner of Dave's KA-BOOM Baits is our newest member at WalleyeFirst. Looks like his handle is StreakFreak.

I hope that everyone gives him a big welcome. If we’re really nice, maybe he’ll enlighten us on upcoming promotions or any new lure news.

Keep up the great work Dave. You’re setting the standard! Love the new lures!

I'd like to take this time to tell you guys something you may not know about Dave and for that matter his whole distinguished family, as all of them are to modest to do or say so.

Unlike the bigger lure companies where the Owners and CEO are surrounded by both yes men and goffers that make up and hand down the rules and decisions concerning every facit of their lures next design, colors and marketing decisions.

The Storm family has always worked closely hand in hand with their employees on the floor for the most part, while even doing the 12 hour days of physical labor right on the floor during and sometime well after the daily manufacturing processes ended.

Doing this along with keeping in very close verbal contact with the few devoted Pro Staffers they aquire, has kept their product ideas, hearts and minds on the pulse of the ever changing fishing game. The Storm company and now Daves new company Ka'Boom Lures and the people associated with it, above all have the integrity and all the right motivations to stay at the forefront of this industry and grow with the ever changing elements of the fishing industry. Welcome aboard my friend.....MY .02cents.

Well...I own many different crankbaits of all sizes and shapes. And which to use is mostly determine by what has worked in the past.

The owner being a nice guy notwithstanding, being a new lure, something will have to trigger my fancy as to whether I'll give them a try, or at least, make them available to the fish and find out if they like them!

Welcome to the site StreakFreak.:-)

I do totally agree Rick.

Just because the maufacturer has a good work ethic and is a nice guy with integrity, will not prod me into buying a fishing product that doesn't work. But the Storm family has had both things going for it for roughly 40 years now. Since Grandpa John D. Storms Glop lure made history back in 1964.

I'll always have to take one long look at everything a industry leader like the Storms comes out with. But if it don't work on the fish, you won't catch me shouting it's praises very long or very loud either..

Love the new KBoom, Hot n Tot look alike, just wondering why the retail is about twice what "The Producers" are getting for the "same " lure?

Rob.

My first perception would be simply, that they indeed are not (the same lure). I've been buying producer lures almost as long as I have been buying Storm products. Thier Willy's Worms along with the Storm products, put a lot of both Salmon and Steelheads in my drift boat for the 15 years I guided professionally on many of Michigans rivers. The Producers lures were sold at cheaper prices even back then, than were the Storm lures. It may be as simple as the manufacturing process, the paint or the materials used, I truly, personally don't know. Maybe Dave could grace us with his first post answer on this particular subject.

I have to agree with Walleye Express. In this world of greed and "all about me", it is very refreshing to hear that Dave Storm and family, have the guts and integrity to get their hands dirty. I don't know if the Strom Family could have happily walked off into the sunset a couple of years ago. But I am impressed they are back at again. While running the hot lure them darn ol' wallys want is the utlimate goal, I for one heartily support and would work extra-hard to insure I give their baits, and dem puuurrtty Ruby Reds, every chance to succeed in my boat.

Innovation and hard work breeds success. I admire that. walleye mike

Just a quick note as to why my lures may be higher priced than the above mentioned baits. My lures are 100% made here in the U.S.A., for starters. My labor costs are undoubtedly higher than some of my competition due to low labor rates in other countries. Not only this, but I am a very small company, and I simply cannot build a bait using the ultra low costs of components and packaging etc that a large company is able to do. I do, however, believe that I produce a quality product that will produce fish on a consistent basis. I am able to do this mainly because of my upbringing, and the knowledge that I have of the lure-building process.

I have been "around" the lure manufacturing plants nearly all of my life, and I am no "spring chicken"! I have learned most of my design techinques and painting ability through years of production of my dad's previious company's baits. My father designed every lure for his company until it was sold in 1999, except for a few lures that I actually designed and his company built. I am very aware of the history that my family has in this market, and I believe that I too can build a quality bait and develop a great line of lures for fishermen everywhere.

While my lures may not be the cheapest priced at retail, I can assure you that I am in this for the "long-haul". I can only hope that the fishermen and women have faith in my and my products and support me. My company is in it's second year and is producing it's second bait. At this pace, I should have a complete line as large as my father's in short order!! It is honestly a pleasure to be "back", and I hope that the fishing public will find that there is still "room" for my products.

You will find that my lures are unique in their design, and I am building them using techinques that my dad's company used to. I am a firm believer that if I can provide the lures in the styles, sizes and colors that the fishermen want, then I will be a success. I look forward to a great fishing season and many more to come!

Thanks to all that welcomed me...I am not here to advertise my products...please realize that I value your thoughts and ideas about fishing and I frequent sites such as this to gather information about what anglers are up to.

I hope that I answered a few questions...Dave

You did great Dave.

Now get back to that molding plant of yours and tell them Capt: Dan is going to need a few more of those WSR03-86, or in laymans terms Ruby Red Silver Prism/Black. I think me and this particular color are going to have a future on the Bay this summer.

Dave, I'll second Dan's request for those Ruby reds! in that particular color here in WI. as trolling season is upon us here I will be using a bunch of your new baits over the coming weeks althouh they are hard to come by just yet! I am headin to Tews this morning to see if there are any left! Glad to hear the reasoning behind costs, If your looking for ways to reduce those costs give me a shout I am familiar with many injection mold processes and am in the automation business where we have streamlined many a companys processes. If there is anything I can do to help just shout! Welcome aboard!
Good Luck

Shameless self promotion, Tyee! LOL Still trying to compete with me and my company? hehehehe One of these days, I'll get my house sold, and get up to the Valley. The eyes, muskies, and OEMS won't know what hit them!

StreakFreak, glad to have you on board here. 2 years ago, I lost all my crankbaits to a theft, and about 200 of them were your dad's lures. You know, the ones that actually worked. I'm excited that you are producing baits in that tradition, and look forward to spending way too much replacing those that I lost, and more.

Steve W and Zach, I think we should have a design contest and have Freak produce an exclusive WalleyeFIRST color of his baits, of the winning design. That would be fun!

I believe Dave will do any custom color combo on his own lures when ordering 20 dozen or more. So getting a special color that might be called (WalleyeFirst) would be a possibility. But setting up to paint somebody elses configuration design, may involve a lot more work I'm thinking.

We would love to place the lures in the OutdoorsFIRST store as a custom kit. Maybe a 6 lure pack, that is set to match specific conditions.

Thanks to you all for your support! I am VERY relieved that the fishing season is getting under way. I hope that everyone is making plans to get out and fish this weekend! I myself, along with my business partner, Dan and my Sales Manager Ron are travelling up to Erie, PA next week to fish for a few days! I am getting very anxious about it and I hope the weather cooperates. I am READY big-time to hit the water up there! Good luck to everyone.

Hi Dave and welcome,

Great to see you here at WalleyeFIRST!!! Fishing is just starting to pick up and the crankbait bite is getting better by the day. If you and/or Ron plan to be in this area during the summer, let me know as I'll get you both out on a good bite somewhere.

Jerry
