Location: Port Washington, wisconsin | Looks like I'll finally be taking delivery on my Lund this weekend. Question is, What can I expect for Merc opti 135 breakin time? Is the manufacturers recommandations the"bible"? Do I risk cheating on the times? Same with a yamaha t8 kicker? Thanks guys. |

| Mine was 10 hours. I followed the book, and have had no troubles with it. Not sure if I would cheat on the break in. The computer controls the oiling during break in. Time accumulates above 2500 RPM, I believe. My dealer told me to fill the livewell, and keep it trimmed down to load the motor while breaking in the first several hours. Once broke-in, mine sips oil and gas, and is quite smooth and fast. Great motor! Congrats.

| The computer basically records whether you followed break-in procedure. If you break down and want warranty work, I'd recommend following it "to the letter".

Location: Rhinelander | Follow the proceedure exactly. If you have a problem with the motor later and the computer shows incorrect break-in, the warranty may be void. |

Location: Webster,NY | I agree that you should follow the recommended procedure in the manual. The actual break in time is only 4 hours. I just got the same motor and am in the process of breaking it in. My dealer put the first 1/2 hour on the motor optimizing the prop and motor position. That only leaves a little time that I need to be restrained and not go WOT for more than a second or two. Actually they say after 2 hours, you can open it up but should still vary RPM's every 5 minutes (I think) or so. So far I love the motor and the 9.9 4 stroke Bigfoot I got with it.
