Member Posts: 744 | I pulled my boat out of the water Saturday to find I had no "down" trim. I had my motor trimmed up all the way for removal from the water, and when I went to bring it down onto the rest for road travel, it did nothing. No noise at all. If I try to trim up, the motor is working. I have inspected all the wires and they seem fine. I had it trimmed all the way down for the rough waves while fishing all day, and only brought it up at the end of the day. It obviously worked OK that morning. Never had any trouble at all with it, and I didn'y hit anything on the water. Any ideas? The only switch is in the throttle control handle. Anyone ever have this happen? Thanks for any help- Dave Stadler

Location: Rhinelander | May be a trim relay or the switch.

Check the fluid level on the resivor. If it is full, is the motor making the same noise as it does going up? If so you may have a valve inside that is stuck! Not allot of knowledge with these problems but it is either fluid level or switch/valve! Good luck!

Member Posts: 3899 | Find the realys, and swap them. It will tell you for sure if it is a relay. Replace both, if it is.

New User Posts: 3 | I would also bet that it is a relay. There's 2 of them, one for up,and one for down. They are about 1" square and unplug the same as a turn signal relay.Swap them as Shep said and if a go,I would replace the pair.If that does not work, then look again at the wiring/trim switch. If you had an internal pump problem, the motor would still run in both directions.

Member Posts: 744 | I will try finding and swapping the relays. Thanks for the advice. Looking at the manual I see I can still move the motor manually, at least to launch and land so I can keep fishing. Thanks again! Dave S

Member Posts: 744 | I switched the relays and sure enough, that was the problem. Thanks a lot guys, you saved me a lot of hassle and probably money too. Dave

Member Posts: 744 | Will do. Gotta get ready for the website tourney. I even found the relay at an auto parts store for $8.50, saving a trip to the marina. Thanks again. Dave S

Ijust had the same problem, it was the ground conection tothe motor. Just take the bracket that holds your relays to the motor head, unsrew the bolts, there should be a washer that makes contact to the power head. I just cleaned that and i was go to go.

Member Posts: 744 | Jeff- I think mine's a little different than yours. My relays are mounted in a plastic box and have a separate ground wire that mounts to the motor right next to it. I thought I would be able to see if the relay was bad when I took the cover off of it, but they both looked real good to me. But when I switched them, the opposite one worked. I have the new ones in now and all is good. It seems like a simple little problem, but we all know a "simple little problem" can cost time and money at the repair shop. My wife doesn't like the fact that I spent more on my boat then on any vehicle we've ever had, so it's good to fix things myself. Thanks again all. Dave S

I'm with Steve on this one....It's probably the relay.
