Hi Everyone,

Just want to post a heads up about a rash of thefts in Oshkosh, especially around the Rainbow Park area. I park my boat in my driveway, with a boat cover on it always and sometime between last Saturday night and Sunday morning some punks cut the ropes tying the cover down and stole 3 spinning rods. They tried to get at one of the 4 trolling rods in the bottom but obviously couldn't figure out how I had fastened them to the bottom. They then thoughtfully re-covered the boat with the cover, with the cut ends of the ropes suspiciously dangling from the cover.

All in all I figure I am out close to $500 on those 3 rod combos. Oh yeah, I also realize that they took my Frabil net, too!

I was lazy and never took my gear out... It could've been worse, considering the hundreds of crankbaits and my locators/GPS that I have on it. Even if it is a pain in the arse, guys, take the time to remove your gear from your boat everytime you get home so you don't have to go through this.

Mark

Sorry to read.

These fancy boats of ours are definetly targets and easy pickings for thieves...

So these punks are still at it, huh? Last year they got us for just under 13 grand by breaking into the garage while we were gone. They also got plenty of others. This stuff is sold somewhere, like taverns, etc. If you are offered some tackle real cheap, do your best to find out who these guys are and TURN THEM IN !!!!!!!!!!!!! You could be next. They got our stuff from a locked garage.

I know that I've posted this before but here are a few tips for our new members: Document what you have with photos/videos. Keep your receipts. Make a list of all your stuff with prices. Your insurance will ask for this if you get ripped off and may not pay unsubstantiated claims.

Also- be prepared for your insurance company to drop you. That's what happened to us. Badger Mutual dropped us for having a hail damage claim in 2000 and the burglary in 2003. All insurance providers are made aware of this and we are now paying DOUBLE for homeowners coverage.

Mark, if you find out who these punks are I would be glad to know. The Winnebago Co. cops would like to have a word with them.

Mark. I know how it feels..last fall I had some custom made Muskie rods and reels ripped off out of our boats on Leech at a resort we stayed at..but I will always take my stuff out now no matter how safe you think it should be.. it sucks..may you never catch a fish with a stolen rod! Howie.
