Location: Flat Rock | Do all outboard 2-stroke motors w/ an electric starter have a charging device (i.e. a stator or alternator/generator)? If so how can I load test it accurately. I used a 12v charging system load tester. W/ the engine running WOT it read that I was supposedly getting 13.5v back to the battery (I wonder if I was just reading the batts output). Problem is though, I was out in Erie & the batt died trying to turn the motor over w/ none of the acc. left on, luckily I jumped it from my trolling batt. I have an older 75hp Mercury ELPT. Any help would be appreciated. |

Location: Rhinelander | If you were reading 13.5, your alternator must have been working, I think. You might have a battery that's going bad, I'd check for that first. |

Location: Milw, WI | I would say battery death is near.
Your charge output is at maybe 8 amps, from that motor.
And 13.5 volts sounds just fine.
They just get the battry back up there.
Nothing like a car recharging the battery. |
