I wanted to take a moment to talk about a lure I used for the first time and had great success with: Dave's KABOOM lures Winning Streak. In practice the weekend before, I fished about 5 areas, trying different things. I manages to catch some small fish on a wide variety of lures.....Thundersticks, Deep Jrs., Shad raps, Deep Nitro Shiners, and yes, even Wally Divers. I finally settled on a pattern, using the Winning Streak with 80-100' of line out behind planer boards to consistently put some nice fish in the boat. In fact, on Friday 6/4, I got my personal best on Winnebago.....28 1/2", along with a 25" and 24 1/2" fish, all within a 45 minute period. I gave this information, along with a handful of lures I used to catch these fish, to my partner and good friend Pat Schuette to use for the WWA on Saturday. He had a 5 fish limit of just over 19 lbs, along with a bunch of other good 15-18" fish, and took 2nd place. Has anyone else tried these lures out there yet? They have a body style and action similar to the Hot n Tot, except they can be run, in my opinion, at higher speeds. Let us know if you try them and how they work for you. Good luck.

I believe there are 47 different colors out there so wondering what was working for you? I had most luck on the bright chartruese one. Thanks for the info.

Member Posts: 40 Location: Kaukauna WI | I believe Daves's Lures is a company formed from a member of the Storm family that produced the orginal thunder sticks and hot n tots we all love so much. I also believe Dave is making his lures from original molds. Would not the winning streak lure be exactly like the old hot n tot then? Also the nitro minnow is exactly like the old thunder stick deep junior. Storms new deep junior sucks....and they must have heard that a lot because now they have an original deep junior they claim is from original molds! Throw in the rip lipper made in China that looks like the original deep junior thunder stick, and now there are three players in the game.

But, the Winning Streak and Deep Nitro Shiner are his original creation. The DNS and Winning Streak have different shapes than there counterparts. Both are wide at the tail which reduces spin-out at higher speeds. The Deep Jr. Thunderstick and Hot n Tot, which are owned and produced by Normark, are copies of the original. Normark earlier this year reintroduced a "Storm Originals" line of Deep Jr. Thunderstick and Hot n Tot, which are supposed to be made of the original molds. When they purchased the line from Storm in either 1999 or 2000, they discontinued that line and began to produce their own version of both lures, which were not nearly as successsful marketing-wise or in catching fish. The Ripp Lipper is a simple copy of the original DJ, which, to me, isn't even a player in the game. I had 6 of these lures and none of them worked well. They mostly filled up with water and were not tunable.

I don't know about that. The yellow box Thundersticks and Thundercranks work well for me. Also, the new line of Storm Lures have been working. But just for the record, the KaBoom lures are also taking fish - just as many as all the other baits in my boxes - excluding one lone lure. It has been the real performer...:-) And I hope it keeps working!

Dave is a member of the Storm family. Normark produced the Hot and Tots without metal lips at first but now they went back to them. Dave was the production man at Storm and started his own line of baits now

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | Greetings...Just to set a couple of things straight about the lures that I make: No, the molds for the Winning Streak and the Nitro Shiner are not original molds from Storm. I have designed new baits with all-new molds...if you have some of both, you can defintely see the difference in the baits mentioned. I am a Storm (my father designed all of the Storm Lures that were marketed prior to the sale of the co. to Normark in Jan. 1999). I am happy to see that my lures are doing well for some of you. The new Storm Classics will undoubtedly earn a spot in tackle boxes everywhere, and they will catch fish...kinda flattering that they are "back" after all these years! I am proud and happy to be making my own lures now, and I am finding that the world is a really BIG fishbowl, and there is room for all of us! It is truly a blessing to have the chance to do what I like to do, and I am having a great time doing it! Good luck to everone during this summer season...
