You gotta try this! I've never caught too many crappie on the Winnebago system in July/August before. But I've never tried trolling for them at this time of year either. I've had some success in the last week pulling boards for some real nice sized fish. Been fishing fairly shallow (5-9 ft), and surprising to me doing better during the day than towards evening. I just use a 6' leader of 4lb tied to my regular walleye set up. Small (tiny) cranks, and twister tails. Sorry, no walleyes yet doing this, just crappies, whitebass and even 2 catfish! When's "crappiefirst.com" coming anyway? Dave S.

That's the area to try then. That is exactly what I did, went to a spot that I had accidentally caught a few crappies while trolling for walleye, and it is producing. 1.5 mph seems best by the way. At that speed you can always throw out a spinner harness for walleye if you don't want to go full bore crappie.

I know I'm not the only one, but it is pretty cool to go do something yourself without learning it from a board or magazine.

We are really walleye fishing and they are a bonus but we get lots of them and always say thats what we are after.
Some times limits.
Some real monsters in there.
When you get them you will know what I mean.
Used to target them is the spring, but they dinomited my spot.
And now they do not come in any more like they used to.
So we pull boards for them.
