Location: Rochester, MN | With all this clam bed talk on the river I thought I would try my clam bed spots today. To make a long story short, I found the walleyes to be on them also. Along with alot of other fish species. Today I caught some nice walleyes, sheepshead, whitebass mudkats and a really nice perch all trolling crankbaits on the clambeds.
I caught 5 walleyes and a few of those cigar sized saugers. Biggest eyes went 19 and 18". #5 Shad Raps were definately good in black and gold and also crawdad. Also caught fish on thundersticks of the rainbow and chrome variety.
The eyes were fairly shallow early on 6-8 feet and then moved out in the afternoon down to 14 feet. So I got the lead out and started using leadcore to get down to them.
Photos below:
1) 19" eye
2) 18" eye
3) 12" perch!
4) Oh and wouldnt you know it I also caught a clam!
