Member Posts: 1406 | Well for those of you that split your bow huntin with Fishin like me I thought I would share with you a FIRST for me today! We went out this am bowhuntin (party of 4) and Josh had a 3 pointer under him for about 20 minutes Chase spooked one going in, the last guy had 17 walk in his area, and I watched a few does out a couple hundred yards. Fished the aft. and Chase managed a few jumbo perch. We went back to the house and 2 does were standin in the driveway so we attempted an ambush. (darn earn a buck) I went to one end and Josh decided to poke a long shot and scare them my way! He missed and they came a trottin at me. When they got to the end of the driveway they stopped and watched him while only about 40 yards out from me. So Josh walked at them and they continued to stare him down. Now I know it's early and they are not yet familiar with people but he walked to within 30 yards of em before they skipped down the driveway right at me. Had I not drawn the arrow back I think the darn thing would have run right into it. I have never and I mean never in 30 years of huntin been that close as I could have reached out and grabbed it around the neck had I not been more freightened than they were as those brown eyes and long lashes met mine at a meer 3 feet. They were supposed to cut into the woods like they always do when were leavin in the car. I couldn't get it in me to take a frontal shot so someone else can get them when the opportunity presents a cleaner kill. I hate moving targets. It's amazing how fast they move when that close and scared to death. We went out for the evening and Chase saw 4 and missed a big doe, (at least we think he did gotta search for the arrow in the am) We were a bit too bushed after draggin in a big one I got deep in the swamp! Opening day is always a special family "bonding" experience and something all sportemen should do! Bring on the Bucks now! Good Luck Tyee

Saw 12 more by 6:45, then a big doe came by at 30 yards, took her now I can wait until the rut starts. In the mean time will be doing some walley fishing. shink
