![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Hey, It ain't Bay DeNoc, but a lot closer to me. Good evening guy's. Or should I say good morning, being it's now 1:02am. Just now got back from the River, where me and Nel's (Skeeter) did some night trolling. And If you've been fallowing my night fishing trips on the Saginaw, you know that the fish numbers have been many, but keepers few and far between. Well, that changed tonight. In fact I lost a real monster about 9:00pm that I think was 8 pounds or bigger. All in all we managed to go 6 for 10. And that 10 number is guessing low I think, as we had many other short hits and set the hook to quick into nothingness. The water was colder (39 degrees) and a lot more stained from recent rains and snow than it was the other night, when I caught those 22 in 2 hours. This I think accounted for the short hits as the walleyes seemed to have a little more trouble zeroing in on the Shad Raps we were using tonight. But man when they did, they unloaded on them. Heres a picture of Me and two of the fish we kept. Edited by walleye express 11/29/2004 11:33 PM Attachments ---------------- IM000772.JPG (46KB - 89 downloads)

Location: Rhinelander | Looks like the fish were going pretty good for you. Does that freeze up soon, or is it open longer than most water over there?

Since the mid 80's and both the Natural and Forced clean up's and enforcments of EPA laws, the river freezes slightly before the Saginaw Bay does. All it would take now is a few calm nights, freezing temps and light flow rates from precipe run-off, and she'd skim and freeze up quickly.

I've caught some real monsters on the full moon nights, casting Shad Raps out near the island at the Saginaw River mouth. But this bite seems to be sporatic at best. I've also heard about guys doing good on big fish trolling on the Bay itself during this time of year, but never given enough info to put a workable game plan together. My best fishing has indeed come while fishing the River during this time of year. But our recent river runs even though (quantity wise) large, have been on the smaller size (fish wise) the last couple of years. I can recall one night on the river about 4 years ago now, that me and a bud caught 3 walleyes that went 29 pounds and some change, which included my personal best of 12.2 . Our best night ever was 17, with many over 5. Those days/nights might be back in the next few years, with all the natural reproduction were starting to get now.
