Went to one of my shore spots on the Wis. river monday.
Got 2 keepers out of 20 fish.
Very small bite window, way smaller than I am used to there.
One right when we got there.
Nothing else till the sun went behind the tree line.
Shut off like a switch 15 mins in to the dark.

Got great minnows, river mixed and alot of them were Redtail and Rainbow chubs.
Wish I could get minnows like that all the time.

Then stopped to bother Lyubo in the Dells on the way home.

Brother, You can "bother" my house at any time :). Rich how about those jig boxes... man I bet if you need to carry them fro the car to the house alone you develop "ape-arms"! Thanx for the selection and instructions how to use those! Don't you guys go now buy all my friend has prepared - I definitely looked like a kid in a candy store - way to go bud, you know you baits and jigheads! Wish I could rub it in and show something for my fishing that same night but I still stink the sweet pungeant wiff of Lo Skunk... Maybe you should rethink that thou-shalt-not-keepeth-thee-1stcaught-keeper dogma of yours this way there would have been 3 eyes on the dinner table.

How long does this bite keep going? Is there an ice up issue, or is there open water there most of the year?

Steve,
I can open water fish any day of the year.
Many spots never every freeze.
In the boat can be 2x's as cold as ice-fishing though.
The eyes can really stack up in there winter holding spots.
Size is always the ?.
They really stack up by sizes / year classes in the winter.
Action is the main goal of the day.

If you want real wild there is a lake near portage where the water never gets below 60 degrees.

You gotta kiss the first walleye on the lips and put it back no matter what size it is, for good luck.
