That time of year to get continuous reports about how good the fish are hitting right across the street from your place.
I don't mind the self promoting, but when are you guys going to stop keeping all of those females? Is it that important to bring in fish every time that you go out?
I look through the photos, and I see lots of females going to the filet board. You must catch enough fish to eat fish a couple times a week. Why can't you practice a little selective harvest and let those fat saugers go and keep the skinny ones? You're lucky to live so close to the river, I think that you would be a little more selective in what you keep.

Now hold on a minute. The slam at Len is not called for. There is a abundance of sauger in pool 11. If you dont belive me ask the DNR. If it was in trouble , they would have closed the dam as they did in the lower pools. The river has only been open for a few weeks and will be froze up again soon. I dont see ANYTHING wrong here. If you want to start a slam war ,then register and dont hide behind your keyboard. Also if you look closer Len is not in the pictures. That was someone that borrowed his boat.

Thanks John

Those that know me know that I don't keep hardly any fish and that week that I saw you at the launch I had released over 50 fish that were over 20 inches, and for those that stop in I preach to everyone to let the 20 and over go. Just goes to show how quick people are to judge others with out knowing who they are judging.

We also released ALL female and male walleyes and kept some saugers to take home. I didnt buy a fishing license to release all fish I catch. I like eating fish and I release a ton of fish durring my tourney fishing that I could have kept. I would see a problem if we kept the big females to eat but I dont see any problem with the saugers we kept. Also I really dont know Len that well but if the guy wants to take his boat out to break the ice to get some guys out to fish and advertise for his place of business, so be it.

I think that all "real river rats" release more fish than they keep. I put a 20" size limit in my boat 10 years ago. This year we were catching 22"ers that were spewing milt in spring.
Anything that looks female goes back.
I remember last fall when some guys were "catching" fish on Sonars, and they were keepeing everything. It was October, and almost all of the fish were obvious females. I commented that perhaps they should be letting those females go
I was told to mind my own business, and that this was the best sauger fishing that they ever had. They'll be the first ones to bitch when things go bad.
Selective harvest. That is the answer to a healthy fishery.

Don't worry about the comment Len, You are an upstanding individual that cares more about the fish in the river than almost anyone I know and you would not do anything to hurt that excellent fishery.
If my garage project that I started in October ever gets done I am going to try and get out there and see you a couple times before October. Man, I swear I am the only guy that hires contractors to build me a garage then I do all the work myself.
Hope all is well and I will talk to you soon.
