Member Posts: 49 Location: Timmins, Ontraio, Canada | I just bought a 2001 tracker targa 1900 and I wanted to put a kicker bracker on it. I have a mariner 15hp motor siting in my basement so I am going to use that for my kicker. I need some help deciding what bracket will be best for my rig. Thanks

Location: Rhinelander | Are you going to a straight mechanical bracket or power lift?

Location: Rhinelander | I'd say Panther too. Minn Kota used to make a good lift also but I don't see it on their website.

I've got a Panther on my boat,it has been very dependable, and holds the motor firm,in rough water.I would recommend you get the panther strap as well, you can leave it on all the time, even when the motor is down, and it will tighten up when you raise the motor for travel.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Matt, Panther makes a good unit and works well when there is no other option available. However, not knowing what year your 15 is I would suggest you checking out the Mercury power trim/tilt unit. It hooks to the motor just like the large motor and allows you to keep your kicker and main engine attached all the time. It also keeps the motor on the transom. This can be very useful as some of the "less than 20foot" crowd of boats do not need that extra weight hanging that far off the transom. If you post what it is or drop me a message I can check for you if one is available. Denny

Member Posts: 3899 | Denny, Is this an easy addition to my 2002 9.9? Price for the kit? I need to do something before I have a problem. Was looking at Bracket Pro, but if I can avoid leaning out over the motor, I will look at other options. Panther is out for the reason you stated.

Member Posts: 340 Location: McFarland, WI | Cook Manufacturing also makes a nice unit which is not that heavy. I did have a problem with relays on the actuator and their service was very good. I have run rough water with no problem but I do strap it down similar to the Panther strap. Larry Strelow

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Shep, they make them for either 2 or 4 stk. they are in the mid 600 range. and they dont need the pro strap to hold it while in the up position, the tilt will hold it just fine.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I agree with Denny, Shep, as you know, I have been running the Mercury T/T on my boats the last two years. I have had zero problems and unfortunately I have been in some fairly rough water. I whole heartedly recommend the Merc T/T.

Member Posts: 3899 | Rough water, Sunshine? When!? hehehe I thought on the way out at LBDN last year, my bag with dry clothes and camera and hand held GPS was going to catch in the wind, and you weren't stopping for nothing! Was a great ride, and that T/T worked great every time I was in the boat. I never priced the Panther, but I thought I was told they were about $350. Maybe that was for the Electro Steer? Guess I'll have to get the Merc kit on order.
