New User Posts: 4 | When using unfamiliar brands of minnow baits, what is a good way to determine what depth you achieve with that particular bait. There are so many variables that affect this such as line type/size, boat speed, amount of line fed to lure, etc. The manufacturers a lot of times put ranges on the product but there are others that state ex: 5'-15', HUGE difference. So is it all trial and error? I would hate to purchase a set of deep or shallow diving baits that don't meet my needs. I thought if my depth range was within the huge range given by the manufacture I could just adjust some variables from there. But for example; I don't want to spoke shallow fish with run short line leads just to achieve a shallower depth or having to run too fast or too slow and not being able to match the fishes moods. Any ideas and inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks, mn_mike

New User Posts: 4 | Thanks for the help. I looked up the book you are talking about (Not cheap!) and it looks like it would be very helpful. It will be a nice addition to the shelf. Thanks again, Mike

Member Posts: 378 Location: Omro,Wi. | If you get the book, and want to substtute a fire-line or power-pro for the ten pound mono, the formula is to use 2/3 the line lentgh required of 10lb. to get the same depth.ie: 150 feet 10lb. mono-equals 100 feet super lines.

New User Posts: 4 | That was my first question after looking at the example chart. I just figured it would be described in there but if not THANK YOU! I've been planning on setting up with super lines so that is very helpful. Good stuff! mn_mike
