Family fishing carnival brings fun for all at 2005 Evinrude Walleye Classic fishing tournament

Walker, Minnesota—May 24, 2005—The 2005 Evinrude Walleye Classic is more than just a big time fishing tournament with a large $100,000 payout; it is a family fishing carnival and it’s all going on right at Walker City Park on the shores of Leech Lake the weekend of June 4 and 5.
“This year’s festival is going to be bigger than ever with a ton of fun activities for kids as young as you can imagine on up to 17—not to mention plenty of fun stuff for the adults as well,” said Chip Leer of Fishing the WildSide located in Walker, MN. His crew over at Fishing the WildSide have been feverishly working to get everything in order for this year’s Classic.
One of the goals of Fishing the WildSide is to share the world of fishing with all members of the family and the carnival is a terrific way to accomplish this mission. While the tournament brings in plenty of serious anglers, the carnival features something for everybody no matter how old or young. Why call it a carnival? Leer said when you have food booths, vendors, activities and games; you have yourself a full blown carnival.
The carnival kicks off at 10 a.m. in Walker City Park on Sunday, June 5 and the first 500 children in attendance will receive a Northland Tackle goody bag as well as a handful of good stuff compliments of Evinrude, the tournament’s lead sponsor. The folks over at Evinrude will also have some boats on hand equipped with Evinrude E-TEC engines, the new standard in outboard motors. Folks who test drive one of these engines receive a free t-shirt with hat and qualify for additional drawings. Those who purchase an E-TEC engine and boat within 30 days of their test drive also receive a free seven-year extended warranty and free boat cover.
Evinrude has corralled a few of their tournament pros who will be bringing up a semi-truck trailer that splits in two and displays the differences between regular outboards and the new Evinrude E-TEC engine. Resort Marine, Lake Country RV and Eric Myhra Ford will also be on hand to show off and highlight their latest and greatest products for the 2005 season.
With all that going on, it might be difficult to remember that the anglers fishing in this year’s tournament are going after over $100,000 in prizes including a $42,000 Lund/Evinrude prize package for first place—the largest first place payout in event history. “We have some terrific sponsors who have helped make all of this possible and I think we’ll have a nail biter when it comes down to the final weigh-in,” Leer said.
The tournament begins early Saturday morning and weigh-in for that first day will begin at 2 p.m. in Walker City Park. Food booths and vendors will be on hand Saturday, but the main show is Sunday throughout the day. Leer said, “We wanted to have as much as possible going on both days in case people couldn’t make it for both, but if I had to choose a day to come it would definitely be on Sunday.”
Sunday is the day of the big weigh-in taking place at 2 p.m. in Walker City Park among the other carnival festivities. “The fun of the carnival, combined with the excitement of the tournament, is sure to make this an event not to miss,” Leer said.
