Member Posts: 198 Location: Gladstone, Michigan 49837 | "the week of May 23rd. through the 27th. " Over-viewing this past week temps were slowly warming and giving away to also warming water temps. Waters temps from lower 50' to reaching the low 60's today as finishing up our weeks fishing. Without question daily warming will only improve the Walleye bite out on the Bays waters. We've been fishing throughout both the upper and lower ends of the Bay as well working the river mouths and spending time in the Escanaba River this past week. Observations and we are catching numerous undersize Walleye although providing lots of fun it's those eating size fish between the lengths of 15 and 21 inches most anglers and clients are now looking for. Area spots to check out would be the shallow water areas of the river mouths from the northend of the Bay including the Whitefish, Rapid and Days Rivers to the Escanaba, Ford and Cedar Rivers. Fisherman have been reporting some pretty nice catches of fish off the Ford and Cedar River areas especially into the evening hours. Newly forming weedbeds are attracting Walleye as well. This year noticing a good amount of fish being marked and caught in the deeper water areas off the eastern shorelines of the upper Bay as well from the narrows south. Methods catching fish and we've been mixing up a number of fishing presentations including our favorite "jigging" methods along with live-bait rigging using floaters as well trolling good amounts of "Walleye's Choice" crawler harnesses. http://www.walleyeschoice.com Variations in bait and using live bait including crawlers, minnows and leeches our "go-to" bait has been definitely Berkley's "gulp" No doubt about it's effectiveness in catching fish. The jig worms, minnow worms as well minnow grubs are catching lots of missed fish that with live-bait has to be replaced immediately but with "gulp" staying on the hook dropping back the bait catching many missed fish!!!!!!!!! Evening anglers have reported a fair night bite trolling over shallow reefs using minnow style baits as well casting shallower areas. Water levels seem to be upwards of last season while comparing notes with mapping as well following our contours on our maps off the chips on our electronics. Upcoming forecast and showing us warming days can only perk the bites even more and start seeing improvements in Walleye catches as well the other sport species we have out here. Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike offer the anglers many options other than just fishing Walleye! Bait and tackle suggestions for anglers venturing out on the water and we've been using leadhead jigs in the 1/8 to 3/8 ounce ranges, Challenger Minnow style baits both shallow and diving baits, Walleye's Choice Crawler harnesses combined with bottom-bouncers. Again live bait including crawlers, minnows and leeches and the Berkley "gulp" This past week we, Capt. Bill Duckwall of Uncle Ducky's Charters http://www.uncleducky.com and myself fished with Ron Kring and Delano, Ted and Doug from the Yorkville, IL. areas having a great week of angling. Eating size Walleye each day were caught with numbers of undersize fish keeping us in action and fun which catching is what it's all about! Again thanks guys for the fun week as well, Here are several photos throughout the week taken along with a storm moving through this late morning, notice the 1st. photo of a fingerling Walleye taken this past week showing us of the great Walleye population and reproduction going on out here on this waters....................... Good luck this upcoming weekend fisherman and we'll see and talk to you on the waters and launch; Capt. Marty Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() | ||
