| YUP, typical of what I remember of Winnebago. Put out of the Winnebago County launch and headed towards an area I had caught some fish in before just NW of that location. Had action right away. Best bait was a Firetiger Frenzy minnow - 40' back - it went off all day, some nice fish, two saugers and small ones too. That board was always lagging back. Also caught fish on #7 Shad Raps, we were setting them at 25 & 50 feet and the Rattling suspending Shad Raps at 40'. I also caught a couple of nice fish on a dark colored tail dancer back 100' - From what I could figure out looking at the book, I was putting baits down from 6' - 10' and also trying to run one more like 14' (deep jr) - Just a few hup caps and two very large perch. Also ended up taking a pass straight out from the mouth and caught fish, then headed to S of Oshkosh to fish some reefs for awhile. THATS when the wind came up and we had to go 15 miles back to the boat ramp, getting the perverbial "bago-bath" as we pushed to get back prior to sunset.
THEN, I find VINLAND STILL & GRILL. Not 2 miles north of the launch on A, next to Payne's Point, MAN did they have good food. The chile was a TEN, (well maybe 9.95, MINE'S a 10) and I had a hot beef sandwich that was fantastic and even ordered some hot wings ($2 special there and at Payne's Point, which was packed) Big cocktail, nice looking girls running around, good food, MAN you guys been holding out on me!!!!!!!!!!
After 10 hours fishing, the "ride" and THAT meal, I was beat like a puppy and hanging my head out the window to get home. Sleep like a log, right up till the leg cramp ( just kidding), drank plenty of water on the boat and smart friend brought plums & banana's to eat. Forget stuff like that too often when it's hot. Had plenty of bugs to eat too, was praying for wind all day. I got it!!! Great day, plenty of fish for my friends to take home a few for dinner, some DANDY fish and lots of small ones to release and a memorable day. |
