Good to see Dave win, but god i would feel like hell if i was on good fish pre-fishing, or even during the tourney...........look at the weights......1-30 are within 10 lbs........its anybodys game, and ive been down 10lbs and in 5th place and only to come back and win on the second day by a half pound......its just like gambling....theres always the chance that you can pull something big off.........i feel sorry for all of the guys that spend thousands to get there and let down by a 1 day tourney...........sucks

I feel happy for all of the families and friends who had their loved ones come home in one piece and alive... I don't think any tournament deserves to be questioned or criticized for deciding to be safe rather than sorry.

Someone's wife posted on another thread complaining about the money spent for only a one day event... I wonder how loud she would have complained had she been spending more money on a funeral...

Our sport is practiced outdoors in "mother nature's world"... We are going to have bad weather...

Safety, so we can all live to fish another day is a reasonable approach...

Safety is fine, as long as it's used at the right place and the right time.

There is no wrong place for a weather related safety call. The director makes the call based on a protocol that ALL the anglers understand going in. I was onshore watching the weather from three sources, and watching the forecast change rapidly over a three hour period. NO ONE had it forecast as it came, and that's a fact. The Weather Channel had winds maxed out at 16 all day at 7 AM, as did the US weather service and the USCG radio weather report. As everyone knows, that changed, and the call was correct. By 2 PM the wind was howling across the Great Lakes.

The Pros from FLW and PWT know the rules going in. I don't feel a bit sorry for anyone in the events that are called due to weather, it's part of the sport. Unfortunate for some, yes, but that's the way things like weather go, NO tournament director can control the winds, rains, and lightning. Safety first, fair play second, and believe me, NO tournament director wants to call an event.

There really isn't a single thing to debate here. Think about it. This isn't a call from an official on a foul ball or a catch out of bounds, this is a call effecting the personal safety of every Pro and Co Angler out there. This isn't an easy decision for the official to make, and is one NOT made without a great deal of careful consideration.

No dispute here. I would have made the same call.

jerry,
I figured you would have! I'm in Canada, on Wabigoon. The weather is windy and cool, and the fish are willing, at least somewhat. Haven't fished 'eyes yet, that starts tomorrow!
