Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Hey Guys, Since Y'all are coming to my hometown to play on the bay, I am trying to work out as much stuff as I can for the inbound anglers and their families. I will have some hotels, restaurants and the like to list here for you. Some just because they are good or good people, or out of the way but overlooked or those where I can secure a deal for the anglers over and above what the community is doing through the MWC. Where the fish are biting? Forget it. I have fished for walleyes about 5 times on purpose in the 4 years I have been up here, so will be of little help. Unless you want to wade in for the fish.... I'll keep you posted. I have one hotel to list so far.... The Chalet Motel Jay Patel is the owner... Jay said that anyone who calls him looking for rooms for the tourney or to pre fish needs only to mention my name and he will take care of you (Or just say Ralph from OfficeMax). The Chalet motel is on Hwy 41 right near the Dairy Queen and Brothers Three in Marinette. Gas stations nearby too. Jay has parking in back for a few rigs and hookups for power. Call him at 715-735-6687. Jay is good people and always very accomodating. ============================================================= Community notes- 41 is under construction right now but one lane is open, and you can get in to most businesses from the back way with a good map or by calling the business and asking how to get there from where you are. By summer there is supposed to be 2 way traffic on Hwy 41. The interstate bridge is not there, and will not be there by tourney time. Detours are well marked. I would ask all of you to try and do business with all the merchants you know or might want to try along HWY 41. It has been a tough construction season and they could use the patronage. ============================================================= Restaurants- I have a passion for the Oriental food (my best Inspector Clousseau impersination) The Emperors Buffet is on Hwy 41 in Menominee, Shaun and Tina have a great place! They are in the old Big Boy building. Very nice people and great food! Great servers too! Buffet or order off the menu or carry out. If you have never been to a Mongolian Barbeque, try it at least once. Thai Cuisine. If you like authentic Thai, mamasan comes right from Thailand. Check their hours and trust me, drinking water will not kill the burn! Don't order much more than mild or mild plus one (Sandy can explain) unless you have eaten hot Thai food before. Eat in or carry out. Try their Sticky Rice with your meal... Number One Chinese. They are in the M&M Plaza near KMart. Ming and his Mom and Dad have great food and a lot of tables to eat in, though I usually carry out. They have a Lunch Buffet or order off the menu and carry out. Nice prices too, and if you walk out of there not thinking Ming is your best friend.......you just aint normal Try the Four Seasons and their Crab Rangoon....... Changs Garden. Amy has billboards out, but if you miss one, as you approach Marinette from the Peshtigo side on HWY 41, turn right at the lights by Officemax(Roosevelt Road). Turn right into the shopping Center by Shopko and go to the end of the strip mall. You can't miss it. Buffet or order off the menu. Again Great food. Amy has quite the place there. The egg foo young and some of her more spicy dishes are my favorites... As you can tell, I eat a lot of Asian food........ More to come..... Edited by Nofish 2/7/2005 8:20 PM

Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Next Update... No new lodging deals to tell of, though Jay thanked me for passing along the info about the Chalet.... FYI on the construction of 41 and the interstate bridge. This is an update and the map as below- http://www.marinettechamber.com/community/road_work_updates.htm Here is a map with the detours marked out http://www.marinettechamber.com/community/road_work_map.htm Here is some more lodging information for the immediate area- http://www.marinettechamber.com/tourism/lodging.php Wanna eat some vittles? http://www.marinettechamber.com/tourism/restaurants.php (Some really good restaurants and some more really good ones!) Something for the family to do? http://www.marinettechamber.com/tourism/points_of_interest.htm All thius info was taken from the Marinette area COC website @ http://www.marinettechamber.com/index.php Construction will make things a little interesting this season, but it was a long time needed. Again, if you take the time to brave the road work, the businesses along 41 will greatly appreciate your visit. Construction has really cramped their business flow. Also, here is the Menominee COC site- http://www.rivercities.net/ And check out the visitors package from River Cities Chamber- http://www.rivercities.net/tourism/tourism_get.htm That's about it for now... Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Well thank you, but the thanks should go to Jay at the Chalet for doing the deal. Heck gang, I've been there done that (tourney angler) for over a dozen years and anything I can do to help a fellow angler is no problem! Also, with the construction, be sure to get there early to scope out the best way to access on exit Jays property. I would suggest that you park in the rear and go round the front to register. Be sure to ask Jay about the plug in for charging set up as well. That way there will be no surprises for anyone involved. If you have a chance write or call the Marinette Chamber and see about a Barracade Busters map of the area, the local Businesses that are affected by the Construction have banded together to map out good routes to get to them during the construction going on. This community is kinda new to large tournaments so anything I can do to help out everyone involved will help. Another tip, the best prices on Gas are usually the Holiday Station in Menominee, they are right on Hwy 41, on the way down to the marina. If you have ever gone to Escanaba from sout of here, you have seen it. Right now the regular is 2.21......jeez o petes, did you ever think you'd see 2.21 per gallon and think it a good price????

Member Posts: 376 Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Hey Guys, There is now 2 way traffic on HWY 41! Some of you may already know that, but it is important enough to post. If you are staying in hotels on the side of the Highway heading towards Peshtigo, entrance and exit should be pretty fair. I think the Chalet is the only Hotel/Motel on that side... If you are staying at the Marinette Inn or the Super 8, you may want to scope out the way in and out and be advised it may be a pretty tight turn to access the lot from HWY 41. The Marinette Inn has a back entrance, so that will probably be an easier go for you. Hall Ave in Marinette (Still part of 41) is still ripped up and the interstate bridge is still closed, so you will be following the detours either on the Hattie Street Bridge (if you follow 41) or the Ogden Street Bridge (if you follow truck detour). The latter is used when you turn off 41 onto Cleveland ave. This is the intersection as you enter town from Peshtigo, the corner Auto Zone is on. Follow that east to the lake and turn left at the three way intersection. This takes you across the Ogden Street bridge (by Menominee Paper and Waupaca Foundry) once across the bridge you will be on 1st street in Menominee. Follow that and you can get back to 41, as well as the Marina and weigh In site. This is an update and the map as below- http://www.marinettechamber.com/community/road_work_updates.htm Here is a map with the detours marked out http://www.marinettechamber.com/community/road_work_map.htm More to come.......
