Member Posts: 499 Location: Appleton | Congratulations and THANKS to all 133 teams that fished the 2005 MILLS FLEET FARM WALLEYE OPEN. We had two beautiful days weather wise. The problem was the lack of fish. The entire tournament field struggled to get legal fish changing tactics. Several teams stated they were going to plan Z on day two hoping to find something to put fish in their livewells. It was the toughest bite of the eight year history of this tournament. As many of the anglers stated it was anyone’s tournament going into day two day. At the end of day one teams only needed 3.16# to be in the money. Teams could fish the entire Winnebago system. Success came in a variety of presentations with some teams having their success jigging while others were successful with slip bobbers and others trolling. The team of Miles Mertens and Jeff Brauer took first place with six fish weighing 13.70# winning them $8,000. Second place went to the Greg Golliher and Joe Robl with seven fish totaling 12.68# for $5,000. Third place went to the team of Daryl Christensen and Steven Mullen with seven fish weighing 12.02# for $3,000. Fourth place went to the team of Mike Janikowski and Edward Coenraad with five fish totaling 8.36# for $2,300. Fifth place went to the team of David Lorenz and Tom Knueppel with five fish weighing 8.12# for $1,700. John Geiger and Dale Howard had the big fish of the tournament weighing 5.70#. Comeback award went to the team of Mark Hanson and Glen Evens Going from fifty second place after day one to eighth place Sunday winning the a MotorGuide Bow Mount trolling motor. Second place comeback award in memory of Dick (Hack) Hackbarth went to the team of John and Larry Olson going from fifty second place after day one to twelfth place Sunday winning the team a pair of Okuma reels.
