Has anyone heard where these tours will be in 2006? Rumor has it that Winnebago will be on the PWT's list for 2006, but nothing that can be confirmed. I would assume that FLW will go back to Green Bay, given that their best 4 day catch since they started took place there. Would anyone like to make a guess?

I think its good when guys have to work for fish. It seems like the only people I really here that complain are ones that have trouble getting the bites but the fact is the top of the leaderboard always find them. Look at the Bassmasters Classic a couple of weeks ago. Rick Clunn was skunked but only complained about the way he fished. He said, "if the guys at the top can catch them then they are doing things right and deserve to be there".

I like tough bites also, but the problem is in walleye the tough bite turns into a follow fest! The guys that do find them seem to always get company on day 2 or 3. I also like huge basket shootouts, where everyone is the game! Nothing like seeing 20-30 25lb baskets in a day!

Not to mention it really sucks for a co-anlger that plopped down almost a grand for the entry fee, travel expenses, and a week of vacation not to catch fish.

The Co Angler could just as easily draw the day one leader as the guy in 112th, so there is never any guarantee that the Co will catch lots of fish. The experience is much more than just the catching, it's learning what the Pros drawn do in good, medium, and tough conditions, and what techniques they apply to each condition. It's competition, and there will be tough bites no matter where an event is held. Someone will win, every time.

I don't dissagree with you, I have been in the boat as a co-anlgler many times, and have had a great time durring a tough bite. However, Bull Shoals this year with the FLW 50% of the co-anglers did not catch a fish at all durring the whole tourney. How much did they really learn?

It does raise a question though, why does the average co-angler sign up? To learn or to compete?

It is a tough situation. I don't think tourneys like that help our sport at all though. I would rather see a location picked that Co-Anglers at least have a good chance of having one good day. If it just the pro's like the championship of the PWT, then fine. Let the fittest survive. Durring the regular tourneys, it has to be fun for both the pro or co-angler, or they just are not going to do it anymore. Just my 2 cents, I could be wrong.

Fun for the Co angler? Why should you have fun WE are'nt? This is the top of the line fishing, with all the ups and downs! The fun is at the end of the year, when you sit back and look at all the new places you fished and take in all that you have learned! It's really not that fun, the weather the bites the places the costs! There is more to fishing new waters than catching fish thats lesson #1! Hope you get a guy that has something going, or take what you can! If infact you did'nt learn something everyday you missed something Thats lesson #2!

This is a fickle sport and every week out there the bites change and fish don't seem to want anything! Take the good with the bad because this won't be the last time this happens to you! This is your final lesson! Fun is a bunch of friends fishing for nothing on a weekend with some beer!

Go forth now and make us proud! lmao

Gordy,

You have said some of what my feelings were... I can't recall a trip/tourney when as a Co I did not make a friend and learn something. Maybe I am the luckiest guy out there... even when I have "zeroed"... I got more out of the day than the cost in dollars...

Thanks!

I tell it like it is, and thats the way things are out there! There is no gold at the end of a rainbow, its all what you get out of it! If you are just looking for "fun" this is not the sport for you! It's tough enough to get and keep a good bite going, let alone making sure you're Co angler is happy! Guys are working there butts off out there, after all it is there money on the line. Even if you are lucky enough to get sponsors to pay for the entries you still have to watch costs and make all the right moves every day to do well. Tough bites are fairly rare as tours try to put us on waters at good times, but it happens. Even on the best waters there is no way to predict weather so you can even get out that day! 3 great weather days of fishing is always better than sitting in a motel room! If you did'nt catch a fish at 1 tournament this year you still went to a great body of water and saw things others have not! You got to fish with 3 guys that were in the same boat as you, they would have loved to boat just 1 fish! Some guys are not in the Championship because they could'nt get that one bite! I love looking at the leader board and seeing everyone stuggling, it reminds us that we are human! WE are at the mercy of the fish (sometimes) and it does us all good to get kicked around once in a while! Makes guys guy more focused on the task at hand! 1 bad event every once in a while is going to happen, if it did'nt everyone would be the best!
While you were down there we were fishing in sleet and rain and in 45 degree temps! Yes we caught a few but, there was nothing to gain EXCEPT what you did! KNOWLEDGE!

Whats the old saying?? A bad day of fishing is always better than a day at work!
Even a bad week of fishing is better than a sharp stick in the eye! Many a angler would have killed to be there in you're place, fish or no fish!

steve:
learning to fish and learning to catch are two different things. i defy you to tell me i'm going to learn much if i'm not catching. i've been on the other side of the boat a few times where i can honestly say i didn't learn much, even from a good pro.

For what a co-angler spends in fees and expenses to fish one of these events, they could just as easily hire me for 3 days of guided fishing on Mille Lacs, with accomodations. Plus, I can pretty much promise they will catch fish.

I guess you are ready for the next step then, pony up the coins and play from the otherside of the fense then. When the learning part is over from the pros its time to jump on there level.

Have you never had a bad week of fishing or a bad few days? Just because you entered a tournament there is know way of changing the fishing, if its bad its bad! You can only hope that some of the guys can get something going! There is no light switch that can be flipped to ON for tournament time!
