![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Took a while for Ol' Captain Dan to track down the catchable walleyes tonight on the Saginaw River. We Jig fished for 2 1/2 hours with all the other 50 boats from 2:30pm till dark, with only 2 lost fish near the boat for our effort. And in that time, only seen 1 fish landed. So when night time came and I took 5 (very long and windy) trolling passes through my favorite spots, with not so much as a bump, I knew I was in trouble with my clients, who drove all the way from Battle Creek. About 7:15 I decided to simply putt along and do some scopeing of the bottom. I ended up as far as Wicks Park in 20 FOW just inside the channel. I was marking a ton of fish only 6 to 8 feet down. So I assigned each person a zone. One would troll back 55 feet, the other 35 feet and the last 25 feet. I'll make this short. We boated 17 walleyes in 1 hour 45 minutes. Only 6 were keepers and we lost about a 5 pounder at the boat. But I persevered and came out smelling like a rose under some bad conditions. And yes, I am kinda proud of myself, for those few of you who will be dying to point that out to me. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/20/2005 11:00 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Dan were you using your bowmount to troll with or does your river boat have a kicker ?

It got down to about 37 degrees last night and it was real windy. ![]() ![]() And yes I used the bow mount for trolling. It was a nightmare in the wind and we were only moving ever so slightly against the current. The key to getting strikes, seemed to be sharply pumping the rods. Some of the fish would hit the lures several times on the drop before getting hooked up. I'll bet the one client gave the "Hook Set" motion 100 times last night without connecting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/21/2005 9:01 AM

I know what NOYB is though. ![]() We were using a variety of cranks last night more out desperation than choice, as the time was running out and the cooler was empty. And changing baits in the dark is a pain in the butt. The client running 25 feet back caught most of the keepers. And he had on a #10 Husky Jerk, Tenessee Shad color. Its also my belief we just happened onto this feeding school of fish, pushing baitfish to the top and stagging near the convergence of the 3 rivers, getting ready to head up either the Tittabawassee or the Shiawassee. My client from last night just called to tell me that 3 of the 6 fish still had large minnows in their gut, and all were very fat inside. All signs of the "binge" feeding we experienced last night. And keep in mind, all rivers and their fishing criterion can often be different. And lastly, you'll find this "Sharing Desease" the least contagious on all the fishing boards. ![]() Edited by walleye express 11/21/2005 11:06 AM

Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | Way to go Dan.I feel about the same as you on the info part. Some you can give the exact location and they still don;t get fish.So what it all comes down to is i can tell you where I caught fish and how but you still have to go and do it yourself. Looks like snow is forecast for the next 3 days.God I hope it warms up this weekend.I'm not putting the boat away until it freezes up good and tight.

Dan we tried that area tonight and got an 8 pounder and a smallmouth, we used the #10 huskies with a 2 oz snap weight and kind of jigged in a way,or bounced it off the bottom if you will, didn't have any hits up high, only got the two but boy did they hit it hard. thanks again Tony

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Good deal Tony. I'm still convinced we simply caught a school of walleyes pushing baitfish to the top Sunday night. I'm assuming you didn't mark any towards the top tonight?

Dan we did mark a few near the top but they were scattered at best, most were on the bottom at the drop off, there were 2 other boats jigging and doing well with white jig heads and minnows they were closer to the convergence where the tib and shi. drop off . Tony
