I really like the looks of the new Tuffy boat that was introduced this year.
The question I have, is why do the manufacturers put domed consoles on the drivers side of the boat? With the new bigger and better electronics being offered, there is not much room with these consoles to mount large displays or any thing else.
Years ago the console was flat on top and made it very easy to mount graphs, fishfinders and even a compass. Plus there was room to dry out lures if you where having a fun day of washing all the baits in your crank bait box - had lots of those days
Not knocking Tuffy - eveyone seems to be doing this. Don't the engineers ever get to go fishing?
I would like to see the flat area come back, so I have a place to throw lures, jigs, sunglasses, lake maps, sunscreen and other miscellanous junk.

Thanks for your response.
Happy fishing to all

Jim,

Having been in the marine business for over 12 years, and a Tuffy dealer, maybe I can help in this answer.

Styles change. The public seems to get bored if things don't change often. Right now, in all segments of the boating population, the rounded dashes seem to be popular. Getting out of the "Blocky ness" Of the dashes and making them more sleek is the trend. With the after markets companies making different brackets in all shapes and sizes, it makes it easy to use what you need to "make them fit".

strength with less material, means cheaper to manufacture, which means higher profit margins!

Hi Tyee, how ya been?

I guess I am trying to figure out where the less material for more profit comes into play. The strength is a given. When you add a angle, the strength gets better. However, with the cost of retooling and making the bubble, there is more material that is being used. In tuffys case, alot more material. Just asking.

The old flat topped console we used to build WAS more functional for the rigger and the end user, and I assure Tyee it was considerably less money to make than what we are using now. Problem is, that flat topped, boxy looking style went out in about 1995.

The Ram style mounts out there allowed the builders to design small flats into the console face for mounting the sonar/GPS units, and they work just fine. Style and function have to meet somewhere, or the boat won't sell.
