After the IKE fiasco this past weekend, the discussions in the bass world I have seen lately, and the wanton desire from folks here in the Walleye World to find ways to move this sport to the next level, I thought I'd ponder this with you all.

I have never been a Nascar fan and watching that sport grow, it has changed from a good ole boys circle dirt track into a huge marketing picasso run by the "owners" and not so much an individual sport anymore.
Do you think that a number of companies could be sold on the idea to hire a team pay their entry fees and send them out! Their revenue is often generated through publicity.

Imagine if a hundred companies bought the entry fees for the major tournaments and hired their "team" and left no room for the individual entrant. Instead of getting a free boat or car "wrapped", you foot the bill for the "team". How many dollars are generated in the economy for the Nascar marketing strategy. The fishing industry is scattered with many companies growing, and the single largest sport that money is spent on this state I believe Wisconsin alone nearly 1 billion dollars. A sport that 100's of thousands participate IN not just watch.

Just some thoughts!
Good Luck Tyee

Tyee,

An interesing thought you have. However, many people fish for different reasons. Where as Nascar they race for one reason, although it could be argued they race for other reasons. But fishing, is not just for the person who wants to participate in tournament fishing. It ranges from the guy on the bank that fishes his favorite river, to the guy that fishes the ocean out of his 50+ foot yacht. Hence the number of niche market companies in the fishing industry to support all these different fishing activities.

What I think will be a changing factor in the near future for the entire fishing industry is inflation. The market I don't believe will be able to susgtain the sky rocketing costs of equipment, boats, gas, etc. etc. It could be argued that tournament fishing helps fuel this problem.

Jayman, I have to agree there are many reasons to fish, although wouldn't it be great if tournament fishing had a Daytona, PGA or Superbowl event? I think inflation will be a factor to consider but would be absorbed by the corporate owner instead of the individual? Think of the revenue generating possibilities by having companies hire fishing teams. I know I would love to watch teams like Crown Royal, Johnson and Johnson maybe a Pepsi or Toyota team, heck it might even be the answer to Delphi's problems!!!!!
Good Luck
