while on the subject, what do you consider the best bait,(live or artificial) to use on white bass in the spring and later during summer on Poygan?

I am no white bass fisherman infact the only ones I ever caught where dureing walleye tournements on the Winn. system and they sure do like the #5 shad raps.
But then again so do the sheap head and the walleye.

The most versitile would be a spinner or spot minnow for both the river and lake. Of course there's a lot of different ways to catch white bass. Depending on when you target them a jig or 3-way with a fly might be the best. If they are shallow, getting ready to spawn. then a spinner or spot minnow will work. Quite often it''s best to catch them with a minnow below a slip bobber. All will work out on Poygan too.

On the wolf river when the fish are found shallow (less than 8') try a gold hook some splitshot about 18" up the line and minnows. Simple but extremely effective.

Good luck

Thanks Doc, might have to get the boys a few of them, I hate wasting time with minnows when kids are in the boat! There is nothing like watching a kid with a 5' ultra lite rod or a 9' flyrod and a spinning reel (depends on the number of kids in the boat) and a panther martin catch dozens at a time!
