THIS WAS FROM LAST YEAR------SEE BELOW
ICE OUT !!!!-Finally its gone.Talked to my friend up river by Berlin yesterday, and he said the ice left there on Friday.Yesterday there were 4-wheelers in front of my house, between Eureka and Omro.Woke this mourning to see half the river open. Some people really are lucky.8-o'clock the entire river was wide open.It should get to Omro before the days end.Bad news is the boat launches are still iced in.Good news is that I can put out some river rigs.Water temp is 38. Mostly due to the run off.It will fall with the changing weather pattern coming in.Now I think I deserve all the credit for open water, because yesterday I got the boat out of storage, charged the batteries, and fired up the engines.Talk about predicting the future. Now lets see what were those winning lottery numbers again? Winneconne is open, and so is Oshkosh.Launches there are still ice also.See you on the river....look forward for the fishing reports to start very soon.

The river launch in Eureka is just about open, although it is supposed to be 7 degrees tonight and teens the rest of the week. I'll stick to the ice fishing for now...Dave S

UPDATE-just got back in from 3-cold hours on the river.Fishing was slow, only 2 eyes 15".Water levels are DOWN by 2 feet from normal.I wonder where its going? The flow is at 9.83 cfm,and the trend is falling.Someone needs to put the plug back in,if the eyes are going to be able to get into the spawning grounds up river.Eureka launch on the river side is open, however with the low water, getting a 18 foot plus boat in is very questionable. There is not enough concrete on the ramp,to reach deeper water. This would be a good place to spend some of the launching fee money.Omro launch at Sterns Park is almost thawed out, people fishing from the banks are getting some eyes, and suckers, with a few perch, and crappie as a bonus.Oshkosh the launches are open at Rainbow Park, and fishing should pick up daily, still slow there to.Winneconnie launch is open at the Fin-Feather.Some fish are being caught, but not like it shopuld be. In all the rivers this time of year,be very carefull of ice comming down, don't get trapped downstream from the launchs.

The river and lauch at Omro are free of ice,and some boats are starting to fish the river. The catch is still slow, but there are plenty of walleyes stacked up by the Eureka Dam.They are visable on camera but do not seem to be to active yet.The warm weather is going to help and they should start any day.River flow has increased and this should bring in more fish.Perch,Crappie, and Suckers have been caught in the river also.

Just got in from a rather depressing day at the dam.Had 3 bites, and no fish to show for the effort. The DNR Shocking boats were there, and did not get many fish up.A dozen eyes that I saw,and some suckers.Water temp is at 40 degrees.Hopefull that things pick up soon. The launch in the bay by Eureka has one slip open, thanks to the guys busting ice with their boats this morning.

The current is hauling pretty good up there too. Glad to here a bay launch is open, launching from the river is a pain by yourself. I'll be out tonight. Dave S

The river did rise to 43.2 when I left today at 2:30. Talked to the DNR guys and they had netted about twenty walleyes in total. That was from the dam to about 2 mile downstream from the landing. A couple of bites for me with the same results as Hafe.Heading to Nekoosa or Depree Tommorrow.

Update----the male walleyes are here, and fishing is getting better everyday.Had two females today, nothing huge but in the 23 to 26 inch range. River rigs and shiners seem to be the best right now.Jigging works if you drift, but staying put and waiting for the schools has been more productive.Water levels have rison considerably, and the current has also picked up.With the east wind the next couple days the current will slow some and fish will work up river during this period.Below is a link to the rivers condition.

Well another year gone bye. I brought up the old thread so we can compare the progress of the walleye at the Eureka dam. Still pretty slow, mostly the small wintered males, and a few 15 inch ones on ocasion. Still nothing to get all fired up about. Not sure with the work on the dam in Neenah going on, if they will let the water rise or not. If the river stays this low the odds of it being a good year here are going to be probably not the best. To The guy in the black/red skeeter that goes by my house, bring back my river rig will ya? There was about 19 boats at the launch in Eureka today. It will get good sooner or later!

Well looks like the fish are finally coming up. Not as good as last year in size (did here of a 26 inch)but the numbers are good. Some guys seem to be putting togeather the pattern and pulling their limits of good fat pan size fish on every outing. There is a bonus to the eyes now with some really nice Perch in the mix. I talked to a couple guys yesterday that stopped by and they had their 10 all between 14 and 19 inches plus 11 Perch that were awsome. Dragging a jig and minnow or using a slip sinker rig was best. I'll try to get some graphs uploaded for the temp and current in the post. Here is a good link for data on the system http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wi/nwis/current/?type=flow
