Location: Rhinelander | Temperatures in the low thirties and spitting snow flurries greeted the FLW field this morning as they staged to launch at Elizabeth Park Marina. Winds were moderate and North, with the forecast for clearing and warmer, into the 50's to 60 degrees tomorrow. This early morning, the roads North of here were so bad some were closed for awhile due to traffic accidents, so we dodged a bullet being just far South enough to miss that band of sleet and snow. There was some, making the docks like grease! Water clarity is good, in fact better than some I spoke wih expected. The bite has been spotty, but some fish over 10# are being caught. Last weekend two events launched on the river, with dramatically different results. It took about 25# to win the first event, and one day later, the second event required almos twice that weight to to win! The weigh in begins at about 3 PM, so stay tuned to WalleyeFIRST for Day 1 results. The Day One Photo Album is here: http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/board/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?... The Day one album will be complete this early evening. Location: Rhinelander | The bite WAS spotty, with weights much lighter than the Detroit River can kick out this time of year, but some big fish were caught scattered about in limits of smaller fish. Reports had fish caught handlining and jigging, with amny anglers using both techniques during the day. Warmer more stable weather promises to draw the larger fish staged out on the reefs into the river, and the weights should increase dramatically if that occurs. Look for Day Two coverage beginning azbout 8 AM tomorrow morning! Location: Rhinelander | I'd like to do that, but immediately after the weigh in I head back to the hotel to upload the pictures, etc. I'm at the best western, give me a call if you want to have a beer tonight. | ||
