Member Posts: 25 Location: Fox Lake, Illinois | Anyone have ideas on how to keep your leeches fat and happy until you're ready to use them again? I've looked everywhere on line and have not been able to find any info. I've tried feeding them different types of meats and all it seems to do is make a mess. Tried the lettuce in the container, doesn't seem to do a thing. Any way to feed them, plump them up? Want to get the jumbos soon before they're all out. Any help, ideas would be great.

Member Posts: 389 | http://www.accessexcellence.org/LC/SS/leechlove.html There's some info/facts about leeches at the above link. Here's a little tid-bit on ribbon leeches: http://www.lolbait.com/aboutleeches.htm Leeches are not bloodsuckers Ribbon and Horse leeches will not suck your blood. They have a small suction cup which they use as a foot; this allows them to anchor themselves while feeding. Ribbon leeches feed primarily at night when they feed on mosquito larva and decaying organic matter and are rarely seen during the daytime. Because leeches can be easily transported and require little care, they have surpassed the night crawler as a premium walleye and bass bait. If you type in "Feeding Leeches" in your web browsers search, it will produce all kinds of sites to get information from. Juls

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | Do not feed your leeches they will stay fat and happy in clean cold water. Keep your leeches in in clean non chlorinated water and change the water about every 3 to 4 days. products like leech tamer also help leeches are able to keep the slime coating that builds up on them rubbed off. There is also a beding material similar to worm bedding made exlusively for leeches and that has some nutriants added to help keep leeches fat and happy. No matter what you use the biggest thing is to keep them clean and cold and they will last a long time.

Member Posts: 110 | Before the canadian ban, we use to buy our leaches in bulk and keep them all summer as we went up north often. Just changed the water every few days with spring water and they lived just fine. Never fed them anything.
