Bombardier shake Up ??

BRP undergoes reorganization

STURTEVANT, Wis. - Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. underwent a reorganization yesterday under which the corporation returned manufacturing responsibility to each of its divisions and several executive changes took place.

“Two and a half years ago, we decided because of the cost reduction plan to bring all the manufacturing operations under one person to generate synergies and cut costs,” explained Pierre Pichette, BRP vice president of communications and public affairs, in an interview yesterday. “We've done that. We are satisfied with the improvement we have gone through over the past 30 months.”

Within the outboard engine business, responsibility for its three manufacturing facilities was returned to Roch Lambert, vice president and general manager of outboard marine engines at BRP.

In addition, it was announced that Outboard Engine VP of Manufacturing Tony Koblinki would be leaving the company, to be replaced by Richard Gobeil, former VP of manufacturing for BRP's snowmobile, PWC and ATV businesses.

Outboard Engine VP of Engineering Bob Young also was fired. George Broughton, director of engineering, will temporarily replace Young as the company searches to fill that position.

Other positions BRP's outboard engine division is looking to fill are VP of operations and VP of marketing and strategic planning.

The company also now has a new vice president and general manager of snowmobiles, watercraft, ATV and sportboats - Yves Leduc, the former vice president and general manager for Rotax, according to Pichette.

Hey Deep Throat, maybe you know? Who exactly is "Bombardier Recreational Products".
They aren't Bombardier Ltd. and they aren't the Bombardier family.
Who are they? I realize it is a seperate corporation, but who was it before?
It must have been some previously existing corporation who bought the Bombardier name, but who?
I only ask because there is confusion created by the Bombardier part of the BRP name.
I guess it would be the same confusion as might crop up if Yamaha sold some of their product lines to somebody and the new owners called themselves "Yamaha Recreational Products". A name like that would lead people to think it was still Yamaha, too.

I believe... BRP, a large piece of "old" Bombardier, consisting of the outboard and stern drive business, the atv, snowmobile, and watercraft lines, were bought by some members of the "family". those businesses and lines form BRP ( Bombardier Recreationn Products).

Johnson and Evinrude were the future growth hope. Merc's acquisition of Lund, Crestliner and Lowe made (make) sales growth tough. Without transoms, no demand.

I love the new e-Tec...

Sorry for not responding sooner.

HG is correct ..................... It's all in the family.

He is also correct that Etec is a nice machine. Rumor has it that Johnson is a dead dog waiting to be put to rest. They are putting all of their $$$$$, research and energy in the Etec movement.

IT's interesting times in the motor world with BRP taking the 2 stroke route and Mercury putting lots of money in the 4 stroke technology. The consumer wins with this one.

Thanks.
My understanding was the family bought back the rec division after the initial sale, but then resold it?
The whole industry is so jumbled up from what it was that it is hard to keep track.

Interesting to see that Johnson(spell that Suzuki) may be a gonner, and Evinrude will have one technology. Meanwhile, Merc is on top with both their 2 stroke, and 4 stroke motors. I don't believe it has anything to do with Brunswick buying LCL.

Merc..(spell that Tohatsu) - ask someone in Fondy where the next generation of motors are coming from. Actually where some are coming from now. Is believing that the one and only technology that a company is running with a bad thing, or actually putting all egg's in a basket because they believe in it? Everybody's got an opinion and it seems that whatever hangs off your transom is the only thing worth having....

Yup, they are all pretty good motors these days. Competion brings new technologies, and this is always good for the consumer.

Opti's and Verado's are, and will be made in Fond du Lac. The smaller joint venture 4 strokes are made at Tohatsu.
