Location: Chilton, WI | I've heard a lot of thoughts on why the Winnebago system doesnt produce a lot of trophy fish (10 lb+) but now I'd like to hear you thoughts. Personally I think a slot would help. There also may not be as much forage as in the Bay of Green Bay and LBDN ect.
I think Bago has a lot of potentiol but what's holding it back? Its odd that an 8 lb eye out there is the biggest I've ever heard being caught. |

| Scrap Iron, the "holding back" is the fact that these critters eat themselves to death!

| If the system was capable of producing 10lb plus fish it already would. The fact is that Winnebago is a numbers game...if you want larger fish go elsewhere. |

| catching a 10 pound walleye is nice, but catching any walleye with out restrictions makes for a more pleasant day on the water. for me a 10 pound walleye carries no more weight than a 1 pounder.just being out and catching fish is good enough.  |

| Two years ago I personally saw a 31.5"er caught out of Lake Poygan that went 8+ lbs during the middle of June. With spawn I'm sure that particular fish was well over 10lbs.

Location: Sherwood Wisconsin | In my option it is all about the diet. Ask anyone who has fished the lake within the last year and they will tell you that there are more bait fish than ever in the system. They eat well, most years too well which may leave the fisherman with a skunk once or twice a year. But what they don't eat in this system is the "fatty/oily" fish that the michigan fish all eat.
I like it to comparing eating a greasy donut vs. eating a piece of toast for breakfast every day. Which one will pack on the pounds sooner? Another way to verify the theory is to do the taste test. Eat a walleye out of poygan or winni and then eat a Michigan walleye. For me the Michigan fish tastes fatty while the winni fish is lean. Some might say that the Michigan fish may taste better. That is because it has more fat. Fat is what makes a steak taste good.

Location: Chilton, WI | Get the net, you have the most interesting and most logical explanation I've heard yet. You're right about the way the fish in LBDN taste compared to the leaner Winnabago fish. I actually prefer the taste of the fatter fish. I always thought shad were a fatty/oily fish though, but I could be wrong.
By the way what actually is the main diet of the Michigan and winnebago fish? I'm assuming its shad for Winnebago fish but who knows.
