I will not only be make a base salary but also commission on most items in the store. From a marketing point of view what are some ideas that I can use to get more people in the the store so I can sell them product. I know when I am at tournaments I will give out buisness cards, But I am looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advace Matt.G Edited by Matt.G 5/14/2006 6:56 PM

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | one of the local bait shops has a monthly tournament that you must sign up for in advance. It is free to enter and for prizes he will give out like a $5 or $10 gift certificate . The object being that people need to come in monthly and sign up before they catch the designated fish for the month. Say june is walleye whoever gets the biggest walleye for june wins. July is Northern Pike and maybe august is lake trout. Most of the time if they are in the store they will at least look around and hopefully spend a few bucks.

I know when I am at tournaments I will give out buisness cards, But I am looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advace Matt.G If you have any imput as to what is stocked in this store, push for the things that are hot items/lures in your area. A good example would be the Reef Runners (in all colors) they sell in Vermillion Ohio for 2 for $10.00. A store I went 10 miles (one way) out of my way to find, and bought $40.00 worth of these items. Stock and/or order enough of these popular items to get a wholesale discount if possible, and then promote and sell these items at a reduced price if possible. I'll go out of my way for an item when I know the store stocks all the colors, sizes and styles of this item. And while I'm there I usually look around for other items I might need. Make people think of your store first for these items, because they know you stock them all. Take notice of trends and/or hot baits, lures or rigs during certain times of the year, for certain fish species people prefer during these times, and jump on that band wagon prior to this hot time. Savvy fishermen know what works during certian seasons and stock up in preperation for these seasons. And it don't take long for the beginners to hear about these items as well. Be ready with (yes we have them) when they ask for these specific items. The "We never heard of them" or "Don't have them in stock right now" answer, guarantees I'll be driving by without stopping on my way to the lake this time and probably every time after that. The time we were there he had virtually any and all the colors RR made (which is many) and everybody 50 miles each way knew it. And if you could pick out why these things were seconds, your a better man than me. Some say that the color variations are off slightly. That Particular time I'm talking about I bought 2 Fried Chicken colored Reefs with some others (along with some a friend barrowed us for our trip) and they kicked some major walleye AZZ. Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | Matt. Try organizing "seminars" at the store for locals and bring in some hot sticks to talk about a technique or how to use a particular bait... then offer a small discount that night for the stuff suggested.... And, be the "go to" guy to get a reel respooled or maybe offer a very low cost reel claenup/tuneup service... Get out and fish enough that you are "respected" as knowledgable and honest.... Know your product better than anyone else... and share that knowledge.... When a guy buys a lure, ask if he knows how to check it for tune and then follow up with a quick lesson if he doesn't...
