Location: Manitowoc, WI | Belllcccchhhh!!!! Ahh! Nothing like a beer with fresh walleye for dinner. Got out on the water out of Stockbridge at about 7. I know, I slept in a little. I was my own boat slut today so it was an exciting day for me, one on one with THEM! Headed South and gave the 2060 a nice work out for quite a while then slowed a bit until I marked a few schools of fish and gave it a whirl. Water temp 71, winds South at 10 - 15. Nice walleye chop. Put two crawler harnesses out 50 feet back with #4 colorado blades in silver/green and silver/purple with a split shot . Most of the fish I marked were in the 12 to 15 ft zone in 19 - 20 FOW. Just started to put a crankbait out the other side and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, there went my outside board. 19 incher. Got them back in the water and finally got the crankbait out, set the drag, and zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, wouldn't ya know it, outside board again. 14 incher. I could go on like this for a while so I will sum it all up for ya. 21 walleye, 9 between 10 and 14 inches, 8 between 15 and 20 inches, 2 at 20 inches, a 22 incher and the biggest being a 26 incher. Oh yeah! 4 goats. Can you believe only 4? Well it's true. I ran about 1.0 to 1.3 MPH and had several short hits. Went through 3 1/2 dozen crawlers and not one fish on crankbaits. All in all it was a great day to be out on Bago. Left at 3 and felt like I was the only one out there for several hours. Man I like to fish during the week. Kep my limit of 15 to 18 inchers for dinner and the rest went back to be caught another day. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | I through at least a couple dozen assorted cranks out there at all different levels and notta! 1.5 mph was the fastest. |

Location: Manitowoc WI | I went out today to pick the east shore reefs befor the storms hit.. all i could catch were goats.. i really havnt got many fish off the east shore rocks this year. |

Location: Appleton, WI | A few questions as I don't do much trolling with crawler harnesses. Usually troll with boards and cranks at 2.0-2.5 with some success so far this year.
How many hooks on the harnesses....2 or 3? Where is a good place to buy the different types of harnesses with the different style and color blades? Do any of you sell them as I know a bunch of you make your own? Would like to try trolling with them but only found some with tiny blades. Any of you willing to sell me some?
Also, how do you know how much weight to put on and how do you know how far down they are going? As you can see I'm a rookie so any help or suggestions would be very helpful. Thank-you! |

Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | I'm partial to the smaller bait shops, so I like to get my stuff from Tews Two in Oshkosh. He has a very good selection of blades and a decent selection of pre-tied harnesses.
Most guys I know use two hook harnesses. 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce keel weights are common. Depth is HIGHLY dependent on trolling speed, but at about 1 mph with 50 feet of line you should get about 10 feet deep with a one ounce weight. Just have to vary speed and distance back to see what the fish want. Some guys prefer snap weight to keel weight. Others may still use bottom bouncers. Its pretty easy to learn how to make them, but be aware that it is kind of addicting once you get going. I hate to think about how many blades, beads, and hooks I have for this...

Now for a quick report:
We fished from 3:00 pm unril 6:00 pm at the west shore reefs on 6/7/2006 and had 22 walleyes and a lot of sheps. The fish we kept were from 13 to 19 3/4, and the action was non stop. We used both crawlers and leeches and tonight it did not seem to matter. Jig colors were orange, green and red, and also chartreuse. We were not using slip bobbers, we were letting our jigs get on the bottom and dragging them on the bottom. Purple Skeeter, remember when you took me out in your rig and we went to that small reef. That is where we were tonight, and we slammed. I am in the Merc this weekend, so sorry for such a generic report, but I gotta see if I can get on some bigger fish for the weekend. I love this website, we just all need to share a little more info. I understand that this weekend is the mercs, but in the future look for me to start posting more regulary and letting you all know what I know. I m on the water 3-4 times a week, so send me an E-mail or call me if you need some help. I am here to help, and all are welcome to call or to E-mail.
