Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Just got back from a 1/2 day charter this morning. Had 2 grown men and one of their small son's All from Indiana. With the predicted severe storm in the forecast for early this afternoon, I was hoping we could get the trip in before mother nature got angry. Well, she's black as 12:00 midnight, raining hard and ugly right now, but the trip could not have turned out better. We boated 27 walleyes in 3 1/2 hours, threw 10 back and boxed 17 nice fish. The small lad caught his first walleye and it ended up being the biggest one of the trip and about 24 1/2 inches.
The key today was speed it seemed. The water was dead flat this morning and I always start out at about 3.0 to 3.3 when first setting out my Otter Boats and fishing lines, to expediate the process. I'll then slow things down to where I figure the better speeds might be. But things started popping right away at the faster speeds, so I stuck with that speed program all morning. Rattlers and spoon sliders 70 back on one side and Rough Guys 90 back on the other.

Thats possible.
I stayed well inside the pack, and was kinda surprised about just where all these fish were. Only ever had to turn a few times to avoid or give room to other boats. |
