Location: Neenah Wi | Got the report from the tagged sauger today."The fish was tagged near High Cliff on May1 2003 and was a female 17"and appears to have grown 2" in 3 yrs. It was 1 of 267 sauger tagged between april 26 and may 7.Since april 2001 the DNR has been working with wft and Otter Street to rehabilitate the sauger. To date they have installed twelve 1000ft long spawning reefs in the NE corner of Winnebago and stocked nearly 3.6 million fry and just over 16,000 fingerlings.Since 2002 they've been seeing increased numbers of sauger fingerlings during the assessment trawling. In the spring of 2004 they began seeing small males(4 yr olds) spawning for the first time and in the spring of this year began seeing small females(6 YR olds)spawning. These are all promising signs and they will be continuing this project for at least 4 yrs."Well it looks like the sauger may be on the rebound.I've gotten more this year than in past years and all were fat and sassy.Thank you to all the people involved in this project.
