Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Just thought I'd see who is planning to fish the event on Bago this weekend? I'll be fishing as a co-angler and looking forward to it as it will be my first tournament experience. Hoping to learn a few things and meet some other WF Compadres as well. See you out there and Good Luck!

Member Posts: 744 | Weather looks to be hot, but stable. Prefishing patterns should hold up well, so I would expect some decent weights. Bring the sunblock and "pleasure boater repellent". Good luck and I'll see you there - Mr. Darboy you picked a great tournament for your first experience, you'll have a blast. Dave S

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Looking forward to seeing you guys. I'll have a blue Yamaha cap on and probably my WF t-shirt tomorrow at the registration. Hope we'll have some time to chat. I agree, with the weather pattern holding and a front coming in later Saturday we should have some good fishing, my guess is the guys fishing Poygan will bring in the best weights.

I'll be out to see if this body of water can humble me again. It should be ideal conditions for a mud bite but someone always finds the bigger fish or figures out how to trigger the bigger fish. It should take 18# to win. and 12# to cash a check. Hope I'm lucky enough to figure them der eyes out! Good luck and learn as much as you can from your boater, that is better than the checks, because you can cash it in many times over. Paul Bruss NPAA #150

I went out a 4PM this aft and my starter would not engage so a guy with a big 21 Skeeter recommended that I tap it gently. I did and off it went. So, we started talking and he said he could not get any bigger fish. I showed him what I was using and said if he wanted to follow me. I filled in a hour and a half and then went by him, he had 4 all 20 and over. Hope he is in the tourney.

Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | I was up on the northern half of the lake for the tourney. There were some legit 4s up there. Not a lot of them, but you would get a few now and then. The big waves killed my harness bite. We did manage to catch 7 legals, but threw 3 back looking for the bigger fish we had been catching before. Turned out to be a bad decision as we only weighed 4 then. Oh well, pre-fishing was great and we enjoyed the two days on the water before the tourney.

Member Posts: 744 | Just curious, did the trolling bite get better for everyone in the afternoon? We had a lot of boats by us all morning, but by 1:00, we were the only ones left and then we started getting some fish. Lost two right behind the boat that would have filled out our limit nicely and put us close to cashing a check. Still a good chance for guys to move up/down in the super tournament on GB. 1.5 times the points for that one, and I'd think the field might be a little smaller. Dave S

Member Posts: 625 Location: LaCrosse, WI | The bite did get better in the afternoon. I think the wind died down some and the baits didn't lunge forward as much. We would've had about 9 lbs had we not thrown the 16-1/2" back and had two fish float on us.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Our crawler bite was pretty weak and then around 9 we went to hot n tot's and put 3 16" fish in the box within 20 minutes. We did well on cranks the rest of the day. We probably caught 15-20 fish, but they were all 13"-17" tops. If we would have had a couple 20's we would have cashed a check. It was a great 1st experience for me on the tournament side and I will definitely be back again. Those waves were nuts, that's one big difference from tournament fishing to recreational fishing, no choice on going out, you have to when money is on the line whereas I would have driven to the landing and turned around to head home or to the south end of the lake to fish.
