![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Had yet another productive, yet perplexing day on the Bay. Started out loosing 4 nice walleyes right behind the boat. Probably in the 3 to 4 pound range. Just simply came off the hooks of the Rough Guys. I'm using those little 1/4 ouncers and they just don't seem to have the hook holding power with how small the hooks are, unless the fish is dead serious about his intentions. Of course getting keel-hauled at Mach 1 might also have something to do with it. And These fish were hitting the plugs short and barely stretching the rubber bands when they did get hooked up. I was running about 3.1 and thought if I slowed down some they might get a better whack at the offerings. Wulp, then I was plagued by GIANT CAT'S. I mean 9 to 12 pounders. But my walleye hooks up's also improved. So we ended up with 12 walleyes, another snot rocket and 9 cats. When we came off the Bay she was getting ready to B-L-O-W the house down. I enjoy, believe it or not, eating catfish! Steve. I have in the past kept a few cats when I used to do a lot of fish smoking. Even ran a few catfish set lines when I was younger and selling smoked fish at work to the boys. And I've had them steaked and fried by a young gal I used to date in Bayport years ago. She's the only one that could do it right as far as I was concerned, and I'm talking about the fish cooking chores not anything else. I clean and bag all walleyes after my charters. And the labor involved in the cleaning of a cat just doesn't keep things moving along quickly after my charters are over, so I'll only keep cats if they are going to take them home whole. And if you ever want a catfish experience you'll never forget get in touch with me in late fall or early winter. Sending you home with your legal limit of 25 cats would not be a problem. Heres a couple of boys I took in early December last year when the conditions were right. And the only reason thats all they took home was because my smaller cooler on my 18 footer was full to the top. If we go I'll bring the 101 quart job. | I Love Cat Fish, not quite as good as walleye of course, but I love them...and they are easy to clean. I fillet them with my electric knife just as I would a walleye. Good stuff!

Member Posts: 538 | Steve, As you may already know, the Fox river in Oshkosh, as will as the Upper Fox and Wolf produce cats througout the year. If your in the area, you should ck it out. The Rock river in the Jefferson/Ft Atkinson area also produced well. Take care, Jim O Edited by Jim Ordway 7/12/2006 3:33 PM
