To All , I just had to pass this along to you. I know the MWC is coming soon to town so becareful. Am sure you run into this
sort of thing other places. The motel mentioned I would have figured to be
one of the safer places around. One just never knows. Might not hurt to
remind the guys and gals to be careful leaving their boat open or easy
access for thieves as things like this are never ending. Nels

I went to Saginaw Bay on July 28th-July 30th with 4 of my 6 kids in hopes of
catching a bunch of Walleye on Saturday and Sunday. When I woke up Saturday
morning (I stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Bay City) someone had stolen my
Mercury 9.9 Bigfoot kicker motor off of the back of my boat. Needless to
say, my fishing weekend was ruined. We went out fishing in the early
afternoon (after filing police report with the State Police, etc.) and
didn't catch a single Walleye (my daughter did catch a sheepshead and a
perch). Got chased off of the lake by heavy rain storm. If you come across a
like-new 2000 Mercury 9.9 bigfoot, serial number OG798860 (not a single
scrath on it and a paper clip holding on the right side of the tilt rod),
please contact the state police and/or send me an e-mail (I am offering a
reward). My children and I would really appreciate it, as I do not have the
money to buy a replacement motor and will no longer be able to troll for
Walleye or Salmon! :-<

Will keep an eye.

Thats lead to another question. Whats the best way to secure a kicker to the back of the boat. Clearly, bolts wont deter. Is there an effective tiller lock?

My motor was bolted to my transom. The thief(s) had to unbolt it before they stole it.

Not a good sign. Thieves with tools. Hopefully the bolting and padlock will suffice.

If someone really wants to steal something they can and will.. All we can do is prevent and pray... I hope those people rot in hell..

There used to be an alarm device called the Dock C.O.P. available from C.O.P. Corp (Halgren Marketing). I'm not sure if they are still in business, but I have seen their product listed on a couple websites. They also make an "Undercover C.O.P." alarm that goes off when someone tries to tamper with your boat cover. Either one of these devices would be a good idea when you're traveling or if you leave your boat in the yard. Do a search and you may find these products.

McGard make secrurity bolts that require a special wrench. Might be a good option.
