The weights were pretty awsome, there were only 21 teams and it took over 34 pounds for 4 fish just to cash a check!

Makes you wonder just how much culling is going on out there?

Why would you say that?

If you've done your homework, you KNOW what it is going to take to win a tournament. You simply make up your mind if your going for the win (throwing back small fish) or if you going to settle for less.

Its really not that hard. Besides, its not like your going to catch 15 fish a day and really have many tough decisions to make.

Wasn't a hard decision at all. All through prefish we had 28-30" fish. We all knew that we needed to keep nothing short of 29" to win. You just had to hope that one of them would be 30.5" and around 10+. Pat was lucky enough to get that bite. (10.24#)

We used up our luck with 2 - 10#+ fish on Sat. during practice.

This was definitely the best bunch of 4 fish limits I have ever seen.

Too bad we didn't have the kind of participation it deserved.

By the way Lynn and I finished 3rd at 34.99# with a .4# deduction for 2 dead fish.

Pat Schutte and Dave Biermann won the event.

Congrats Pat and Dave, always nice to see the SWC boys at the top.

I am heading up to Door County with a few friends who have never seen walleyes over 3 pounds, anyone care to share a few spots and tactics from the tourney for a few catch and release fish this weekend?

Any help is appreciated.

I don't have first hand info, but my guess is that there are still big fish on Chambers. Reef Runners were working, not sure about now.

I did not see many on Chambers' 3 fingers on Sunday. I was there from 8 until Noon. Did see a few run to around past Chambers heading to the Horseshoe reef area. If there was a tourney going - no one was on the fingers. Maybe a little rough for most rec guys? My guess is Horseshoe reef is going for the really big fish. Chambers seems to be holding lots smaller fish now.

We fished Horseshoe all day on Sat. All that for a 23"and a 24". We only saw 3 other nets all day.

John:

The northern 1/3 of Larson's Reef was pretty good for us Saturday afternoon (8/12). We trolled Reef Runners tipped with 1/2 a crawler, 30-50 feet back ,1.5-2.0 mph for our fish which we're stacked up around a few of the humps. Pretty much in the WP4-WP5-WP11 triangle in the picture. If they aren't ON the reef, try the west side drop off (WP9-WP10-WP11-WP3). It's not too bad of a ride from the Potawatami Park Launch or the new Quarry launch. Good luck!

Tim,

That is the best response from a post I have ever received, thanks a bunch for the info from you and the others kind enough to respond. I hope to show these guys some big fish for a few photos and releases!
