I heard some say walleyes will start heading back up rivers againg in fall, is this true?
This is very true River Eyes. Some come in as early as late October in my area and stay in the lower river system all winter, then any left downstream will fallow/continue upstream with the spring arrivals for the spring spawn. What draws them in early mainly is the baitfish that crowd into the rivers themselves during this time. Most of these baitfish are seeking the warmer water temps of the river as the main body of the Bay cools down below their comfort zones. Some of these early walleyes seem to be more river oriented than others that stay out in the big water until warm spring rains signal their spawning urges. This is mother natures way of insuring against natural disasters that may wipe out one wave of spawners.
